Former Inter Milan owner Massimo Moratti explains why the current San Siro Stadium must not be demolished.
The future of the iconic stadium has been a topic of great debate over the past years.
Inter and their crosstown rivals AC Milan were hoping to tear down the current ground and build a modern stadium in its stead.
But their project hit a dead end when the authorities placed a constraint, preventing the two clubs from demolishing the stadium due to its historical and cultural significance.
Afterwards, the two clubs parted ways with each now looking to construct its own venue. Inter have identified the Rozzano region as the home of their new stadium. They hope to have the ground ready for the 2028/29 campaign.
But in the meantime, the mayor of Milan Beppe Sala is still trying to convince the two clubs to remain at San Siro. He recently launched a project to renovate the old ground.
It appears that Moratti is also in favor of this plan, as he argues why the San Siro must not be demolished.
“San Siro is still a wonderful stadium,” said the 78-year-old in an interview with Radio Rai via FcInter1908.
“I see the stadium issue more as a national issue. It doesn’t apply to Milan and Rome where the stadiums are still beautiful.
“For me, our stadium remains spectacular. I believe that San Siro has one fundamental aspect: The spectators have a clear view of the action. This is paramount.
“You can always work to improve the services, but in my opinion, tearing it down is exaggerated.”

Moreover, the former Nerazzurri patron opened up on the Scudetto race.
While he tips his beloved club to clinch the title, he insists that Juventus remain dangerous despite their defeat in the Derby d’Italia.
“I believe Inter are much stronger than the other clubs. Then you have Juventus who are annoying. The Bianconeri are very pragmatic.
“However, Inter are playing well while also collecting good results. I don’t know who will win it, but Inter certainly deserves it.
“The team is growing according to the plan and is attracting notable support.”
