The medicals for striker Mehdi Taremi on his summer free transfer from Porto to Inter Milan have been temporarily postponed.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri have decided to leave the medicals for the Iranian international to another time for a couple of reasons.

One way or the other, it looks clear that Taremi’s arrival at Inter this summer will happen.

The 31-year-old has had a complete agreement with the Nerazzurri since last month. And Inter have already informed Taremi’s club Porto of this fact.

So now all that is left is the last few official steps.

Medicals would be chief among these. Taremi must complete his medicals as is the case with any transfer, and then he can put pen to paper on his contract with Inter.

Reports yesterday indicated that those medicals would be today.

Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski, in fact, had already underwent medicals ahead of his own summer free transfer.

And reportedly, Taremi was supposed to fly to Milano today to undergo his own medicals. But that has not taken place.

Why Mehdi Taremi Medicals Ahead Of Inter Move Postponed

According to FCIN, there are two main reasons for Taremi’s medicals not going ahead today.

The first concerns the potential publicity around the striker’s visit.

Inter and Taremi do not want Taremi to arrive amid a lot of fanfare and a big presence of reporters.

That is how the club handled Zielinski’s medicals yesterday. It was only hours after the Pole had completed the process that it even emerged publicly.

Inter have been hoping for a similar process with Taremi.

Considering that the 31-year-old is still a Porto player for a few months, it’s a bit of a delicate matter. Inter do not want the optics of another club’s player at their headquarters at this stage.

So the Nerazzurri will aim to keep the medicals for Taremi more low-profile.

Moreover, Taremi was also involved in a poor result with Porto yesterday. The Portuguese giants suffered a shock league defeat to Arouca.

That naturally means that the mood around the Estadio do Dragao is not at its greatest.

So Inter don’t want to further inflame any tensions in that respect. Images of Taremi undergoing medicals with his next club would hardly go down well with Porto fans.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri decided for essentially political reasons that now is not the best time for the Iranian international to complete his medicals and sign his contract.

But it should certainly happen sooner or later.
