Milan Mayor Beppe Sala feels that without an agreement with Inter Milan and AC Milan, the city will sell the San Siro.

Speaking to reporters, via Calcio e Finanza, the Mayor outlined the city’s position.

In recent weeks, Sala has renewed his efforts to convince Inter and Milan to stay at the San Siro.

For more than a year, the two clubs have been orienting themselves towards alternative plans.

The evident impossibility of proceeding with plans to demolish the San Siro and build a new stadium in its place convinced the clubs to move their plans.

The Nerazzurri are working towards a new stadium in the commune of Rozzano. The Rossoneri, meanwhile, have been focusing their efforts on San Donato.

But Sala is hoping that an ambitious project to renovate the San Siro could change the clubs’ minds.

However, if this fails, then the city will have a conundrum in the shape of the stadium.

The San Siro is a very large stadium. And without Inter and Milan playing in it, the structure would see quite limited use.

Sala Updates: Without Agreement With Inter & AC Milan, Sell San Siro

Of the plans to renovate the San Siro, Sala said that “Last week we met with WeBuild to verify their availability and the possibility of completing an analysis in three works.”

The discussions concerned “The possibility of completing the work in a way that doesn’t put a stop to matches, or does so in a minimal way.”

Sala went on that “This week I intend to meet WeBuild and the clubs, to take stock.”

“I believe,” the Mayor added. “That even by the standards of Milan, this is a never-ending story. And we need to get out of it.”

“Furthermore, there is the problem of the Municipality’s accounts,” he noted.

“In the sense that if I know for a fact that this solution is not of interest to the clubs, then I would have to look for a solution, a sale for the future.”

“Otherwise, the real estate assets will depreciate,” Sala noted.
