Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij emerged as the ultimate culprit from last night’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

The Serie A giants were hoping to build on their 1-0 win at San Siro in the first leg to book their place in the quarter-finals.

They appeared to be on the right track when Federico Dimarco scored the opener in the 33rd minute.

However, Antoine Griezmann immediately responded for the Spaniards, while Memphis Depay equalized on aggregate in the 83rd minute.

The Colchoneros went on to win the tie after dramatic penalty shootouts.

In their post-match player ratings, Il Corriere dello Sport (via FcInterNews) identified de Vrij as the biggest flop, handing him a 5/10 grade.

The Dutchman failed to properly clear the ball on the first goal. He then lost track of his compatriot Depay on the second goal.

The trio of Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Dimarco came slightly close with 6.5/10 ratings.

Then we have Matteo Darmian, Yann Bisseck, Davide Frattesi and Alessandro Bastoni who received 6/10 grades. The same goals for Inter manager Simone Inzaghi.

Then we have a host of Nerazzurri stars who settled for 5.5/10 notes, including club captain Latauro Martinez who ballooned the final spot-kick.

The list also includes Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Thuram, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Davy Klaassen, as well as Benjamin Pavard and Denzel Dumfries.
