Stefano Pioli feels that the gap between Inter Milan and AC Milan is not as big as the current Serie A table makes it look.

The Rossoneri coach spoke to DAZN, via FCInterNews, after his team beat Fiorentina in Serie A.

At the start of the season, Inter and Milan looked to be the two teams ready to battle it out for the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri each won their first three matches of the campaign.

Then, Inter beat Milan 5-1 in the derby. This was certainly a statement victory.

That did not immediately peg Milan back, however. The Rossoneri responded well to that derby defeat and kept pace for Inter, even surpassing their city rivals in the table.

Then, however, Milan started to hit patches of poor form. This was just as Inter – and Juventus – were beginning to find their consistency.

That meant that the title race in the Italian top flight looked as though it would come down to the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri.

And Inter have certainly done their bit, flying at the top of the table.

But a shocking downturn in form from Juventus as actually seen Milan reclaim second place in the table.

But it’s a distant second. The Rossoneri are looking up at their city rivals by a distance of fourteen points.

Pioli: Gap Between Inter & AC Milan Not As Big As Serie A Table Suggests

Pioli commented, “Yesterday I said that the gap with Inter is real. But it’s the result of four weeks in which we didn’t cope with injuries well.”

“That allowed Inter to open up a big lead,” the Milan coach continued.

“Then, in the last few months, we’ve done very well.”

“I don’t think that there’s a fourteen-point gap in quality between the two teams,” Pioli said. “Especially as we’ve improved.”

“We’ve secured second in the table. But we still need a lot of points.”
