Lautaro Martinez is “allergic” to spring, with March and April his least prolific months in front of goal for Inter Milan.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter captain Martinez’s flying season has hit something of a slowdown in the past month.

The 26-year-old has scored 23 goals in Serie A this season – and 26 in all competitions. But the most of recent of those came in February, against Atalanta.

Martinez failed to find the back of the net in league matches against Genoa, Napoli, and Empoli since then – resting for the full ninety minutes in a Serie A clash with Bologna in the meantime.

And the Nerazzurri captain also failed to score against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

This included an infamous penalty miss in the shootout that sent Inter out of Europe’s top club competition.

Lautaro Martinez “Allergic” To The Spring With Inter

Martinez is not without precedent when it comes to goal droughts like this.

Even in his most prolific seasons, the Argentine has had a bit of a tendency to go on scoring tears – and then to have quieter sequences, often lasting several matches.

This season, Martinez had seemingly gotten those streaky tendencies out of his system.

Until, that is, the last month.

But as the Corriere note, the spring has often been the toughest period for Martinez.

During his entire time at Inter, Martinez has scored just eight goals during the month of March. And nine in April.

That is the fewest that the Inter captain has scored in any month, excluding August – never a complete month in terms of the fixture list – and the summer months when Inter played in 2020 due to pandemic-related disruptions.

Martinez has three matches to go this month. He could aim to come back with a bang and prove that he is not entirely averse to this period of the year.

But as it stands, “spring allergies” have continued to prevent the Inter captain from getting on the scoresheet.
