Inter Milan “Optimistic” About Signing Atletico Madrid Defender This Summer

Inter Milan are “optimistic” about the prospect of signing Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso on am free transfer this summer.

This according to Spanish outlet AS, via FCInterNews. AS report that the Nerazzurri have already made contact with the 28-year-old’s representatives, and have offered him a four-year contract.

It is now looking very much like Hermoso will leave Atletico when his contract with the Spanish giants runs out. The former Espanyol’s deal expires at the end of June.

And the defender’s agent has confirmed that at the moment a new deal would be far away.

And Inter are very alert to Hermoso’s situation.

The Nerazzurri’s propensity to go after free transfer opportunities is no big secret.

That is the route by which Hakan Calhanoglu, Andre Onana, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Marcus Thuram came to Inter, among others.

And the Nerazzurri are also already signing the likes of Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski on free transfers this summer.

They could make it three big name free transfer signings yet, though.

Given the player’s age and experience at the top level, the Nerazzurri see him as a perfect fit for their project.

Moreover, Hermoso has played some of his best football in a back three system at Atletico.

That would make the 28-year-old a natural candidate to bolster the depth in depth within Inter’s squad, considering that they also play with a back three system.

AS report that Inter have already been in contact with Hermoso’s entourage.

The Nerazzurri have made clear to the player that they would like to sign him this summer.

And the outlet furhter report that Hermoso would be very open to the idea of joining Inter.

Hermoso would like to play in Serie A. And Inter would represent the opportunity for the Spaniard to fight for trophies over the next few years.

AS report that Inter have offered Hermoso a four year contract with wages of €5 million net per season.

The Spanish outlet anticipate that that would be enough to convince the Spanish international.

Inter are far from the only club with an interest in signing Hermoso on a free transfer.

AS note that particularly in the Premier League, there are other clubs who are eyeing up the Spaniard.

But the outlet report that Inter anticipate that they can beat the competition and convince Hermoso to join for next season.
