Inter Milan have a clear deadline in mind for wrapping up a contract extension for their captain Lautaro Martinez.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri want to see the 26-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal before the start of next season.

Inter and Martinez’s agent have been in contract for some months now.

The Nerazzurri had reportedly hoped that they would be able to wrap things up in January.

However, that didn’t happen in the end.

The reason is hardly a secret – Martinez and his agent don’t consider any of Inter’s offers to date to be high enough.

Inter have gone as high as around 8 million net per season plus add-ons. But that’s not enough for Martinez.

The Argentine is hoping for a contract worth around 10 million.

There is little worry about the state of the negotiations. Martinez is firmly committed to staying at Inter, where he wants to become a club legend.

But there is still work for Inter to do in the negotiations. They must find a compromise with Martinez and his agent Alejandro Camano.

Inter Have Deadline For Lautaro Martinez Contract Talks

At the moment, Martinez is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

Therefore, it is not as though the end of the Argentine’s deal is rapidly approaching. There is no risk of the player leaving on a free transfer for anything like that.

Still, Inter want to tie Martinez down on a longer-term deal sooner rather than later.

The Nerazzurri do not want to have the situation drag on into next season by any means.

Therefore, the club have made that a sort of deadline.

Inter could look to seal an agreement with their captain at the end of this season.

But if not then, then the club will be insistent that Martinez sign a new deal by the end of this summer.
