Inter Milan are tracking teenage Croatia and Osijek striker Anton Matkovic.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper note that the 18-yearp-old has earned comparisons to Mario Madnzukic.

Inter are searching high and low for possible targets in attack this summer.

The Nerazzurri will already be bringing in one forward, in the form of Mehdi Taremi. The Iranian international will join on a free transfer from Porto.

On the other hand, former Arsenal veteran Alexis Sanchez will head for the exit door.

Marko Arnautovic’s future is not altogether clear. The Austrian is under contract with Inter for another season, but could well leave for the right offer.

And whether or not Arnautovic stays, Inter could still aim to strengthen their attacking depth.

Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson is reportedly a major target in this respect.

However, the 26-year-old former AZ Alkmaar forward certainly wouldn’t come cheap. Therefore, Inter are also tracking some less expensive options.

Inter Tracking Anton Matkovic – Compared To Mario Mandzukic

One possibility for Inter would be to go after a younger player.

That would entail outlaying less of a fee than moving for a player who has established himself in Serie A like Gudmundsson has.

Antwerp striker George Ilenikhena is reportedly on the Nerazzurri’s radar in this sense.

And the Gazzetta report that 18-year-old Osijek striker Matkovic is also a prospective target.

Inter are keeping tabs on the teenage Croatian striker’s progress. He has scored two league goals for Osijek, and made appearances for Croatia at up to the Under-19 level.

The Gazzetta note that Matkovic has a similar profile to a famous former Croatian international – Mandzukic.

Like the former Juventus and Bayern Munich striker, Matkovic is a very tall and physical player – standing 6’3″ – capable of holding the ball up and bringing teammates into play.
