Inter Milan are set to announce a contract extension for midfielder Nicolo Barella before the start of EURO 2024.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that the 27-year-old will sign a new deal until the end of June 2029, earning 6.5 million net per season plus add-ons.

At the moment, Barella is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

The former Cagliari midfielder signed his most recent extension with the Nerazzurri in the autumn of 2021.

But naturally, Barella is now due a new contract.

Inter want to tie the 27-year-old down to a new deal to ward of the interest of Europe’s elite. Last summer Arsenal and Manchester United showed interest in bringing Barella to the Premier League. Manchester City and Liverpool are also long-term admirers.

They will also reward the player with increased wages, reflecting his importance to the team.

Inter Milan To Announce Nicolo Barella Extension Before EURO 2024

Inter have already held several rounds of talks with Barella’s representatives.

The negotiations have been, for a player of Barella’s stature, relatively straightforward.

The Italian international has made his priority clear. He wants to stay at Inter for the foreseeable future.

Therefore, the parties have not taken overly long to agree on terms.

Barella will put pen to paper on a new five-year deal. This will take him to the end of June 2029.

Meanwhile, in terms of wages, the Gazzetta anticipate that Barella will earn €6.5 million net per season plus add-ons for the duration of his deal.

The last couple of weeks have seen a transitional period from the ownership of Suning to that of Oaktree Capital at Inter.

This has prevented the Nerazzurri from completing major contract extensions.

But now the new owners have officially put a new board of directors in place. CEO of Sport Beppe Marotta has also become club President.

And one of the first acts of the new owners, board, and of Marotta as President, will be to make a big statement about the future of Barella at the club.

They should formally wrap up contract talks with the midfielder in the coming weeks.

The Gazzetta anticipates that a new deal for Barella should become official before the start of the Euros later this month, where the Inter midfielder will be a key man for Italy.
