Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that striker Mehdi Taremi is giving a “great response” that bolsters the team’s depth in attack.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, ahead of this evening’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.
This evening, former Porto striker Taremi starts in attack for Inter.
The 32-year-old Iranian international starts alongside Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez against RB Leipzig.
Taremi has not exactly been a regular starter for Inter this season. He has certainly gotten his chances, but these have come off the bench as often as in the starting eleven.
Taremi has, however, featured from the start in all of Inter’s matches the Champions League.
The Iranian started in huge matches against the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal. Then there was his star turn against Red Star Belgrade last month.
Inter Coach Inzaghi Hails “Great Response” From Mehdi Taremi
Inzaghi decided not to start Taremi against Hellas Verona in Serie A over the weekend.
Instead it was Joaquin Correa who got his first start of the season.
The Argentine had a very impressive performance, with a goal and two assists.
This just underlines how much depth that Inter coach Inzaghi has at his disposal in attack.
But that does not mean that Taremi will not get his chances. Or that he is not ready to take advantage of them.
Inzaghi said that the Iranian “is giving me a great response.”
“He’s at a team where he has top teammates. But when I’ve called upon him in the Champions League, where he’s the player with the most minutes, he’s given us answers.”
“He’s helped us get the ten points we have,” Inzaghi noted.
“And now he has to keep going like that.”
As far as his decision to make eight changes to the starting eleven from Saturday’s 5-0 win over Hellas Verona, Inzaghi said that “I’m lucky enough to have a great squad.”
“And I have to draw on everyone,” the Inter coach added.
“They’ve all shown great signs in training. And then I have to decide one match at a time, based on the match.”
