Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has put club president Beppe Marotta in an awkward situation after his latest statement.
Per Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, Marotta’s desperate attempt to extinguish fire has not come to fruition.
‘Whoever doesn’t want to stay should leave‘ – a statement that echoes through the dressing room like a thunderclap.
Indeed, Lautaro Martinez was brutal in his verdict of the current situation at the San Siro.
However, little did anyone expect El Toro’s statement would provoke such a strong reaction from the Inter stars.
Inter Milan Ace Lautaro Martinez Sets Fire Not Even Beppe Marotta Can Extinguish

It didn’t take long before Beppe Marotta realized the potential consequences of Lautaro’s outburst.
The Inter chief immediately tried to defuse the situation by addressing the Argentine’s controversial interview.
Indeed, he directed Lautaro’s anger at Hakan Calhanoglu. But it was in vain. The flame had already spread beyond control.
Marcus Thuram and Davide Frattesi found themselves offended by the statement.
Furthermore, other exit-linked stars like Yann Bisseck didn’t take it well.
Therefore, a summer exodus has suddenly become a distinct possibility.
Inter at least needs one full season to revamp and have the right players, other than Bastoni, the full backs are old, Pavard is not old but prone to injury. Midfield needs complete new change, Turk and the Armenian both are done and are looking tired and slow, Frattesi is not happy, Asllani just not good enough, we need three new midfielders plus the two we just purchased, wing backs, Dumfries is very good but not happy, DiMarco has been bad since January, rest are old, new polish kid from Roma, has speed but no skill, easy to mark and push around, that was a horrible purchase. Up front we need two new strong signing, Thuram be gone soon, Taremi never was the right player for this system that Inzaghi played, that leaves Martinez with a 19 year old that could not be even close to play at this level. So in total Inter needs to sign 7 new good players till August, not mediocre ones like a polish wingback.
they already sign 3 good players, bonny, susic and henrique. the also targeting One center back and one defensive midfielder. i think 5 new player is enough. They need to convert not happy player to happy player again.
#ForzaLautaro
So what did he said that someone should be offended? Playing and receiving millions for Inter has its responsibility which many of these woods dont care about. In this case he is right. If we want to be a winning top club all players need to give their best. Only few of them are giving actually. Its easy to not care at all when you receive millions. All the idiots and shitheads can get the fuck out of our club or play their best. There is no other option.
It was wrong to say it in public he is the captain and should let by example, if he had anything to say it was better to talk face to face, now Hakan won’t stay and every desired team knows and offer peanuts cause of our Captain
Not the case cuz Galatasaray offered already weeks ago peanuts, the fee is too much for them thats why they are bargaining. And Lautaro didnt mention Hakan at all, he said all the ones can leave which dont want to give their best. Hakan gave always his best for the club, but he knows its the best time now to leave.
I think Lautaro is just tired of players every summer leaving at the end of the transfer window and just want to get things straight as soon as possible, so as he said if you want to leave than leave don’t drag it or try to stay at a club you ain’t going to give it your fullest.
I don’t care who doesn’t want to stay. The most important thing is to get rid of Asllani. He wants to stay. He knows once he’s not at Inter, he’ll be at Serie C.
Lol common sense I’m happy they’ll be no longer Correa even tho his contract had to run out for him to leave. Asllani is frustrating because he has no will to up his game whatsoever. He knows he will play and he will offer the same bullshit he offered the year before. It’ll be 100% Chivu downfall if he somehow keep using Asllani for whatever reason other than injuries he’s just so bad its unbelievable at least a young player will want to prove something. In the FIfa CWC only Barella was trying to create instead of constant back passes while Asllani was contantly hiding from receiving the pass and when he gets it he just pass it back with no will to go forward
“Therefore, a summer exodus has suddenly become a distinct possibility…” This statement is, quite literally, based on nothing. People are acting like Marotta is new to this. He made his bones in the Juve viper’s nest. Some players may or may not be happy. Welcome to football. They would need suitors and will find out quickly that there are very few places to go but down.
As i’ve said before, our outgoing transfer policy is a joke. One more in line of failed transfers who went for cheap or on free. Salcedo who was bought for 10mil, after 7 years of playing for either primavera team or loans, after loans, went on a free transfer to Greece.
I agree but its also because Inters been mostly getting Italian managers who focus heavily on tactics. Young players without experience will likely struggle and thats why most them fail and then sold for cheap. Our game against fluminese showed how bad Inter players are with the ball. Chivu needs new players and I think right now would be a good time to make drastic changes.
I completle agree if Lautaro and i think he is riight to speak up, so something finally change! if you dont want to be here, so just leave, I also urge all the players and fans who doesnt want to be here to just fuck the way out !!!! we are not retirement home so stupid players like correa, arnautovich, taremi, sanchez collect paycheck and cost us titles!
That’s happen when you speak your mind in anger, after losing a must win match, and in public. That’s embarrased his teammate, and it may lost respect from other player. Even he is the captain, he is not entitled to do that in the public. It is better to motivates his teammate in this turmoil situation, not vice versa. He should fix this situation as soon as possible before it getting worst (if he is a true leader).
What exactly did Lautaro say that is so controversial? To me, Marotta was the one who made it worse by stating that Lautaro was targeting Calhanoglu. That said, what Lautaro said is reasonable, and if a player feels targeted, maybe said player is not giving 100% on the field for Inter.
Correct. Completely agree
That kind of talk should be behind closed door and not in public, this reminds me when Icardi’s agent (wife) criticize teammates publicly resulting in icardi’s losing his captain armband.. i expecting inter to do the same now
Agree.. its ok if he talked behind closed door, not in a public. He is not the owner or the manager. I believe he is also frustrated, like other. But his statement just disrespects his teammates, not only Calha. I hope Lautaro speak soon to clear out the situation.
agree. our captain is like us. fed up with BULLSHIT.
Forza capitano
He badmouthed his team mates in public that was wrong, he could ve called team meeting and talked with closed doors
im team lautaro. he just want to wake up everyone. everyone has to take their part, football is team sports, so everyone need to support each other and fully committed to team, and gives 110%. other than that just toxic to the team.
Lautaro shouldn’t have made that statement it will bring confusion into the team and many of the players who would stay won’t even like you again.
Yes, Lautaro probably shouldn’t have made public statement, but if not him reacting, then who? Chivu, who just came as coach, management/owners which didn’t bring adequate signings before, who is massively to be blamed?
shout out to lautaro for being this brave to save our beloved INTER. Even iam not a big fan of him as our striker, but he gives his all for this club.
Maybe that was a hidden thought that had to be released after losing in the UCL final, it all started with Simone who had imagined a big money to go to Arabia when the team needed high focus for the UCL final.
Lautaro been at Inter for years and kept his mouth shut, it is a case of probably holding in these things until he exploded. If someone on the team doesn’t judge it as passion and frustration and are so easily offended then maybe they aren’t meant for the highest level of football.
Can we use this opportunity to get away from 3 back formation? I want to see some wing forwards in the team that will help Lautaro up front on the wing.
It’s a fire that needed igniting, and if it gets rid of the half arsed players, Congratulations Capitano!!!! Thuram- Barca backheel aside, has done nothing for 6 months, and when he does play, it’s obvious he’s not putting in full effort!! Hakan- Injury after injury, and nowhere near as productive as a couple of years ago!! Frattesi (I do have a little sympathy, due to game time) – wants to leave for first team football… then leave!!
Bisseck offended? Then maybe stop dropping monumental clangers that cost us vital points!!!
On top of that, whether they want to stay or not, Acerbi, Darmian, Miki, and possibly even Sommer (before we end up with Handanovic 2.0) need to be let go….
A major overhaul is needed, to start a new era!! A new formation would be nice too, as we look stale, predictable, and completely devoid of pace and creativity!!
I really want Chivu to succeed, but he needs to be brave! If we start the first game of the season with a 3-5-2, and Miki starting in midfield, he’s not gonna be Inter coach for very long….
Frattesi should stay and play as AM behind the strikers.
Sommer should stay this summer as we have limited funds and other priority positions to strengthen.
Mikhi should stay as a sub option when veteran experience is needed.
I see Thuram being sold next summer. Pio Esposito will become starter alongside Lautaro; Bonny as sub. If Topal or the German guy who plays for Italy become ready next season to play as AM, then Carboni might play as SS. In any case, IMO Inter should sell Thuram next summer.
Frattesi can’t play as an AM. He’s passing range is atrocious. He had game a where he’s been on a pitch and had like 6 passes (against Roma) in 80 minutes.
Agree
I agree with most of what you’re saying, but reducing Thuram to a single backheel is not right. He set up Lautaro for the first goal against Bayern, he won the aerial duel that led to Inter tying the match last minute against Barca, and he made Araujo dance in the play that resulted in the winning goal. He was way more involved than just scoring that backheel goal.
That said, Thuram (like many other players including Lautaro) hasn’t been playing at their best for months. Dimarco was by far the worst player on the pitch against PSG but for some reason, you don’t mention him. It’s been years since we last saw the best from Barella too. Hell, even Bastoni hasn’t been at his best lately. These three players and Lautaro are considered the backbone of Inter, but if they’re not at their best, it must be said. The fact that they are Italian (except for Lautaro) and are considered the backbone of the team does not exempt them from criticism. As for Lautaro, I’m one of those who loves how he’s always fighting, tracking down, helping defense, and giving his all in every match. But let’s not forget that his main job is to score goals. He goes on these dry spells way too often and it’s not like he’s not getting chances, he’s actually missing sitters most of the time, overhits balls that should go on target at the very least, or straight-up shoots it at the GK. This is also a problem.
Good point. One of the reasons why we lost the Scudetto was Lautaro missing so many goal chances during the season.
I’ve often mentioned that DiMarco hasn’t been himself since around January, and I’ve stated numerous times that we risk ruining Barella completely if we don’t let him rest! Bastoni had been wobbly recently, and Martinez certainly has his dry spells, but that wasn’t the point here…. the point was players who don’t want to be here, along with a few veterans who need to leave!
And by the way, Thuram is putting Lautaros dry spells to shame!! Maybe not exact figures, but by Christmas he was on about 15 goals, and by the end of the season he’s on 18!?
That’s why i was for David to come, true as 3rd striker though to give competition to Lautaro and Thuram for starting 11, but now, after this tournament and his reaction on Lautaro’s statement, put him up for sale for 70 mil and bring David
As I said, I completely agree with most of what you said about players not giving 100%. I just felt that you were singling out Thuram when he’s not the only one who has underperformed as of late. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I feel like I’m always on the same page with what you say regarding Inter. I was just this one time that I felt that you were letting some players go unscathed.
You meant back to Spaletti’s era. Lautaro was already part of that formation with Politano and Candreva on his side. He was not a starter player though.
That’s right. He only got to be a starter after Icardi lost the captain’s armband and pretended to be injured.
No need for apologies my friend, we all have our opinions…. I guess I’m being especially harsh on Thuram because he’s one of the few players we have who can be a genuine difference maker… unfortunately, as of late, his body language just seems completely wrong to me….
Obviously we need better players than them. Candreva couldnt dribble for his life and Politano was just shit to be honest with you.
This statement is simply not controversial. After a season that ended in disappointment it is natural to be frustrated. If you truly care about this team, you will also feel frustration. If Lautaro’s comments offend you, it means somewhere in your mind YOU ARE the one who doesn’t care enough to be fully dedicated.
With a new coach starting a new cycle, we have to be ruthless and concentrated.
Now is the time any guy with a big ego or an ace to grind is going to try to take advantage and rock the boat. They have to be put in their place or leave.
All that said, the media is, of course, going to make this a more toxic situation than it really is.
100% correct
Today people get offended by anything. Lautaro probably shouldn’t give that statement publicly, but if this is how some player react, than maybe they shouldn’t stay at all. Nobody is irreplaceable, especially not guys with with this weak mentality, who can’t pick themselves up after a finish failure. We lost convincigly against psg, they had better players, more money and all, but if they’re gonna cry like sissies, maybe there should be exodus.
but lautaro is dud against PSG if u watched d match against Bayern and Barca u will no that only thuram could hold the ball in that forward line so he should stop saying stupid things when even him can’t live up to expectations
Thuram wasn’t the same after his injury, same as Dimarco. They all played bad in finals, but i would rather keep Lautaro, who is passionate about this club, and who’s running, getting back in defence for ball whole 90 minutes, and not just passing the ball side to side.
agreed but as a team captain u don’t have d right to go outbrust like that it feels like u are targeting the whole team
wether u like it or not some players are loyal to inzagi and his departure and new coach and formation affect players it takes time to adjust to but I believe if chivu continues with these young players we will achieve a lot under him
when players stop performing, dont want to be in inter, this had to be said bh lautaro. Yes it startef a fire but it showed who really wants to stay at inter and who doesnt. It was about time Lautaro said this. Because if you have not watched any match, look again. The players doesnt seem interested to play.
