Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta explained the club’s lack of signings in the January transfer window.
Speaking to Sport Mediaset via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri chief delivered his verdict on Inter’s uneventful transfer session.
Despite being linked with numerous elite stars, Inter had to settle for a couple of low-profile signings this winter.
Indeed, Leon Jakirovic has joined the club from Dinamo Zagreb, linking up with the U23 side.
Meanwhile, Inter signed Yanis Massolin from Modena on deadline day, but they opted to let him stay in Serie B until the summer.
However, the club’s hopes of finding a decent backup for the injured Denzel Dumfries came a cropper.

Asked whether he feels ‘sorry’ for failing to add any big names to Chivu’s squad in January, Marotta replied:
“No, because this is called the transfer market, but we didn’t need to repair anything.
“Ausilio and Baccin have done an outstanding job by making 24 players available to Chivu, including those from the youth academy; work that fully satisfies both Chivu and the players.
“We only had that small issue with Dumfries and his recovery from injury, which we don’t yet know how long will take.
“I won’t comment further as these are delicate situations, but we’re optimistic that it can be resolved quickly.
“We’re confident that the players can be competitive in the competitions we have to face.”

Marotta then discussed Inter’s Scudetto battle against AC Milan.
“It won’t just be with Milan, but with all the top teams that can achieve the maximum,” he said.
“We’re facing a different kind of football compared to recent years, where the mental and motivational aspects now play an important role.
“The fact that Milan can focus only on the league is an advantage for them.
“We, on the other hand, are used to handling many matches.
“Last year we played 64, reaching the Champions League final and battling for the Scudetto until the end.
“We can’t give up – we must aim for the maximum in every competition, facing the physical and mental stress that these commitments bring.”
Finally, he delivered his verdict on Sunday’s incident in Cremona.
“We view this as a senseless act that has nothing to do with the values of sport,” Marotta said.
“There are criminals who act in ways that catch us off guard. These individuals will be dealt with by the courts.
“It’s a chapter we want to close quickly because all Inter fans are cut from a different cloth.”
I will not be surprise if we don’t offer all our old players with expiring contract another 2yr renewal. I said it before the window that Marotta will say the team is good as they are and no need to buy new players at the end of the window and he did exactly what I said.
