Inter Milan chief Beppe Marotta dismissed rumors linking the club to Diego Simeone, insisting the Nerazzurri are happy with Cristian Chivu.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, Marotta took stock of recent speculation linking the Argentine with a return to San Siro.
Diego Simeone is the longest-serving manager in Europe’s top-five leagues.
Indeed, the 55-year-old took charge of Atletico Madrid in 2011, turning the club’s fortunes around over the past 15 years.
Furthermore, Los Colchoneros have rewarded him for his exploits with a lucrative contract, making him one of the highest-paid managers in the world.
Meanwhile, Simeone had emerged as a potential candidate to replace Simone Inzaghi at Inter before the appointment of Cristian Chivu.
However, the former midfielder would have to take a substantial pay cut to facilitate his return to Serie A.
Simeone, who played for Inter for two years toward the end of the 20th century, is unlikely to return anytime soon.
Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta Dismisses Diego Simeone Speculation

Asked about the alleged pre-contract agreement with Simeone, Marotta replied: “Let’s call it fake news, absolutely. There’s no need to discuss it because we are extremely happy with Chivu.
“Maybe we’ve been a bit lucky, but in substance, Chivu is proving he is up to the task at Inter.”
“From an economic point of view, it’s important but not decisive. Right now, the focus is on the sporting challenge that honors Inter’s history, and we want to do it justice.
“Of course, if we miss this opportunity, we’ll fix the financial side as we go, but it’s not a problem.”
Meanwhile, Marotta believes in Inter’s ability to turn their Champions League tie against Bodo/Glimt around.
“In sport, anything is possible,” he added. “Fortunately, their advantage is significant, but it’s not insurmountable.
“That’s why I’m confident in our team, our players, our determination, and the support of the fans in the stadium. We respect our opponents, but we mustn’t be afraid and we have to give everything.”
Finally, he commented on Ronaldo’s influence on young people at San Siro.
“Well, certainly. Just trying to emulate him a little is enough to give our young players some grit.”

lost two games against a Norwegian team and did not manage to qualify to the round 16 and the club is “extremely happy about him*, then, there is something terribly wrong with the club..
Here come the emotional responses from all the hysterical fake fans.
Leading the league by 10 points, lose in the knockouts of the champions league because of a fluke matchup on plastic turf in the arctic.
They’ll want to ‘fire Chivu’ and ‘sell Akanji to Saudi Arabia for a bag of chips’
I support Chivu but I feel like I do have the little right to blast out my frustration. I want him to be better and I dont want company to fire Chivu.
For Akanji, he is a rental, we dont even have the right to decide his future yet until we confirmed the purchase with Man City.
We lost alot of money last night. It will now be harder to rebuild the team in the summer because we lost money to bodo grim a team that is way under us.
The championship will not bring UCL money.
let me ask you Chivu doubters a simple question
did any of you honestly thought when Inzaghi left we’d win the league?
this man with his first career as a manager and with awful signings is heading towards winning the league
guys have some god damn patience and faith in the man
It’s the same team as last year and it’s the same system like last year.
About chivu….have you seen his substitutions with bodo ? They were awful. I like Chivu alot but he’s not ready for a job like Inter. His tactics are also very limited.
So you’re extremely happy after losing twice to mighty Bodo?
the thing is that not only we lost, but also ManCity, Atletico lol. This is kinda relieving when we are not alone there lol
the difference being that we lost twice and dropped out of the UCL by Bodo, our defeats carry some specific weight 🙂
Hopefully the match showed some few flaws against teams that sit back Thuram is useless and actually works against the team with headers that have no direction over and over again. The performance is much better than the previous match. Still I was hoping to see a surprise from Chivu and he plays with 3 attackers to try to score as early as possible and catch Bodo off balance but it was more of the same which is not a good sign. Chivu still is tbe best option for Inter but I feel an injury to Zielisnki and Dimarco then the season is over . Winning the Scudetto will be a historical moment and now more time will be dedicated into that
Um….
Can you change your mind?!
He doesn’t have the money to get a proven, quality coach.
Imagine our transfer budget now.
