The venue for Inter’s Supercoppa Italiana final against Lazio remains unresolved, with the United States and San Siro both live options as the match approaches its scheduled window between 21 and 23 December.

According to La Repubblica, the fixture’s dates are set but where it will actually be played is still up in the air. That uncertainty leaves Inter without clarity on whether they’ll be preparing for a home final at their own stadium or a midweek trip across the Atlantic in the heart of the festive fixture pile-up.

US bid expected imminently, San Siro the fallback

A direct offer from the United States to Lega Serie A is expected in the coming days, at which point the board will convene to assess it. Should it go ahead, the match would most likely land on the East Coast, though no host city has been identified.

Morocco had also registered interest in hosting but that approach has since stalled, with a possible return to the conversation next year. Absent a financially compelling American bid, San Siro, as home of the reigning champions, is considered the probable fallback.

Why the one-off format matters

This season’s Supercoppa reverts to a straight one-off tie, pitting the Scudetto winners against the Coppa Italia champions, or in this case the runners-up, since Lazio finished as beaten finalists. The four-team format staged in Saudi Arabia in recent years drew persistent criticism at home for stretching the calendar and removing the trophy from Italian supporters altogether.

A single match is a step back toward the competition’s traditional shape, even if the location question is still open. A definitive call is expected before the end of September, leaving Inter and Lazio to plan around a fixture that could still swing between continents, with San Siro’s own long-term redevelopment adding extra context to the Nerazzurri’s stake in hosting it at home.
