After the end of the embarrassing performance in Bergamo, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti had the following to say to Dazn.

“For a long time now, we have been unable to maintain concentration for longer periods. That is why we concede moments of distraction where we give our opponents too much room. All of a sudden you get comfortable and when you meet a team like Atalanta you get punished.

“The match became better after the equaliser, just like we wanted it to be. But from the individual decisions taken and the fact that we went for a lot of physical duels that we lost, this was difficult. Atalanta maintained during the entire match the right approach. During the second half we pushed up well in the central part and both teams could win. Then we got cold and they managed to score in situations we interpreted badly. They took advantage of set pieces.”

Spalletti then discussed the space that was provided to Atalanta at times.

“With their play at the wings we were forced to set up our team differently, allowing them to get out of marking on one side at the same time as the other side was wide open. Until the fullback position there was an open field.”

He concluded by discussing Marcelo Brozovic’s sending off and if it could have been avoided.

“I do not know. I have not seen the situation yet, at the moment of the sending off you react emotionally but for me it did not look like a yellow card.”
