Inter CEO Beppe Marotta Crucial To Nerazzurri Becoming A Winning Team, Italian Media Argue

Beppe Marotta deserves huge credit for Inter’s likely Serie A title triumph, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said Marotta had successfully identified the one thing which the Nerazzurri needed in order to become a winning team.

Following his arrival at Inter in 2018, he realised the team did not have a reliable core of players upon which the club could build their success.

Juventus had a spine of Italian players during their dominant period in Serie A, a group of people who led by example for their less experienced teammates.

A year and a half down the line, Marotta has helped Antonio Conte turn Inter into a solid team who are on course to win the Scudetto.

He returned to Appiano Gentile for the first time yesterday after recovering from COVID-19.

Conte deserves lots of credit for having Inter eight points clear of AC Milan at the top of the table, which could become 11 points tomorrow if they beat Sassuolo in their game in hand.

But Marotta also needs recognition, the Milan-based paper argued, for ensuring that Inter now have their own identity in the dressing room.

Former Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli thinks the Bianconeri are paying a heavy price for their decision to get rid of Marotta in 2018.

A report elsewhere tonight suggested Marotta was chasing free transfers for a number of players at Inter this summer, including Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum and Napoli’s Nikola Maksimovic.
