Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella’s transfer value has doubled during his time with the club, according to an Italian newspaper report today.

The Nerazzurri forked out €40 million to sign the Italian international from Cagliari in the summer of 2019 and, as per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, his value is now sitting at no less than €80 million.

Barella has been one of several players to have grown exponentially under the guidance of Antonio Conte, earning himself rave reviews throughout the course of his 18-month stint in Milan for his performances in the league and in Europe.

The 24-year-old was recently linked with a move to Real Madrid, but a report in Friday’s papers assured Inter were planning to make Barella their next captain after Samir Handanovic.

Barella has made 31 appearances in all competitions under Conte this season, in which he has scored three goals and provided 10 assists.

The Milanese publication argued nobody could be surprised about Barella’s supreme confidence during games anymore, highlighting some of his finest displays on the international stage for Inter.

The midfielder scored Inter’s first Champions League goal last season in a 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague, before dominating Barcelona for 45 minutes in the Nerazzurri’s frustrating defeat at the Camp Nou.

He recently starred in Inter’s 2-0 win over Juventus in the Derby d’Italia last month, having previously led Conte’s side to the final of last year’s Europa League in Germany.

Earlier today, Nerazzurri legend Sandro Mazzola said Barella reminded him of himself for the way he dribbled.
