Antonio Conte has no excuse not to win a trophy in his second season at Inter, according to the Nerazzurri’s former striker Ruben Sosa.

Inter are four points clear at the top of Serie A following Sunday’s 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina.

Conte’s side are most people’s favourites to win the Scudetto and Sosa thinks they have everything they need to get the job done.

“It is now Conte’s second year at Inter, now he knows the players better, and they know him better,” Sosa explained in an interview with Italian news outlet FCInter1908.it.

“When you join a great team like Inter, the first year is always tough, but the second year if you are a good coach you have to be able to win something.

“When the team scores goals I see a great unity between the players and the coach, everyone hugs, and this is an important thing.

“I see that a good group has been created.”

Sosa, who played for Inter between 1992 and 1995 expressed his thoughts on last weekend’s Milan derby, which saw Inter crush their city rivals.

“I watched the derby at home and I must say that I liked Inter a lot,” he admitted.

“They played as if it were a final, winning a match like the derby like they did is never easy.

“They team are physically fit, they play quickly, do not lose the ball, play calmly and are always on the attack.

“They try to play their game, they take to the field and want to win.

“Inter are the favourites to win the Scudetto and not because of the derby, they were favourites before that because of how they’re playing.”

Sosa then spoke on Inter’s prolific strike force of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, who have combined for 38 goals this season.

The Lu-La partnership is on course to break numerous goal-scoring records for the Nerazzurri this season, ensuring Conte’s side have the strongest attack in Serie A.

“They are two great strikers, they understand each other and have a great understanding between them,” Sosa continued.

“One is faster, one is physically stronger, they complement each other.

“Lautaro is more ‘South American’, both are having a great year.”

The former Lazio player then touched upon Inter’s early elimination from Europe this season and whether it could be an advantage in the title race, as most believe it is.

“If you remember when we won the UEFA Cup in the league we were almost last, this year it seems the opposite,” he said, recalling the 1993-94 season.

“Once Inter were knocked out of the Champions League they started focusing exclusively on the league.

“We focused on the UEFA Cup and in the league we did very badly.

“Now Inter must aim for the Scudetto without delay.

“At the beginning of the year you have the league, the Champions League and the Coppa Italia, and Inter must win one of these three competitions.”

Sosa proceeded by discussing who he feels poses the biggest danger to Inter’s bid to win the Serie A title this season.

“It’s a different kind of football, everything changes without fans.

“Juventus are winning with continuity and are improving, Lazio as well.

“Inter will fight for the title with them and with AC Milan.”

In conclusion Sosa spoke on Inter’s academy youngster Martin Satriano, a fellow Uruguayan, and Matias Fonseca, the son of his former national team teammate Daniel Fonseca.

“Satriano did well at Nacional,” he explained.

“He is a boy who likes football and likes to train.

“I think he has everything to do well, but you have to go easy with him, he is still a kid.

“Satriano has the qualities to become a great champion, but let’s take it easy.

“In Uruguay we talk very well about him, that’s why he left so soon.

“He is a different player from the others, he is a ‘Class A player’ as we say.

“Fonseca? I have heard very good things about him, even if I have not seen him play yet.

“Like all children of great players, it is not easy to repeat what their father did, it is difficult for the boy but he has Uruguayan blood, so who knows.”
