Inter could decide to make young goalkeeper Filip Stankovic their first-choice goalkeeper next season in the event that Samir Handanovic were to be on his way.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 21-year-old would be the favourite ahead of Andrei Radu and Gabriel Brazao to be the second-choice in goal next season should the Nerazzurri decide to promote from within.

As it stands, Inter captain Handanovic’s contract runs out at the end of June, whilst the same is true of current third-choice keeper Alex Cordaz.

Whilst it is not set in stone that either will leave when their current deals expire, it looks to be a very plausible scenario, in which case the Nerazzurri would certainly have to find a solution in terms of who will be backup keeper next season.

There have been reports that Bournemouth and former Juventus, Barcelona, Fiorentina, and Valencia keeper Neto would be the Nerazzurri’s main target to replace Handanovic should the Slovakian leave.

However, an alternate possibility according to Tuttosport would be that Inter could promote a player already under contract with the club to the role of backup keeper.

There is young keeper Brazao, currently on loan with SPAL, but the Brazilian is not deemed to be ready for a role within the Inter senior team.

Then, there is Romanian international Radu, who had been backup to Handanovic and is currently on loan with Auxerre.

However, in the case of the 25-year-old Tuttosport report that the Nerazzurri’s intention would instead be to try and sell Radu in the summer off the back of his good form on loan in Ligue 1.

Accordingly, it could be Stankovic who is deemed ready to have a role in the senior team as backup keeper next season, with the young Serb having impressed across the last two seasons on loan with Volendam in both the Eerste Divisie and the Eredivisie.

Stankovic is the son of legendary former Inter and Lazio midfielder Dejan Stankovic, who won the European treble with the club during the 2009-10 season.

As for who the 21-year-old would be backing up, there is some uncertainty around that.

Current Inter first-choice keeper Andre Onana is reportedly the subject of strong interest from Chelsea, whilst Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario has been linked as the main target to replace him.
