Lazio are ready to rival Inter to sign Tigre and Italy striker Mateo Retegui this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Biancocelesti have made the 23-year-old one of their main attacking targets, although the Nerazzurri remain in pole position for his signature.

One of Lazio’s priorities for the upcoming summer transfer window will be to sign a striker.

The Biancocelesti want to bolster the attack with depth. Specifically, given that goalscoring talisman Ciro Immobile is now 33 years of age, Lazio want an able deputy for the former Torino and Borussia Dortmund man.

Lazio Want Inter Milan Linked Italy Star Retegui

According to the Corriere, Retegui is at the top of Lazio’s list of potential attacking signings.

However, getting hold of the 23-year-old may not prove easy for the Biancocelesti.

First, there is the question of whether Retegui would accept having to compete for a starting spot with Immobile. The 33-year-old is still first-choice to lead the line for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Whilst Retegui could have the chance to play ahead of Immobile as he has done for the Italian national team, there would be no guarantees.

Then, there is also the matter of Inter’s interest in Retegui for Lazio to contend with.

According to the Corriere, the Nerazzurri are in pole position to get a deal done for Retegui.

The 23-year-old is reportedly a major target for Inter. According to the Corriere, joining the Nerazzurri would be the player’s first choice, and he’d only consider other offers if he cannot join the Nerazzurri.

Meanwhile, the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, and West Ham United have also been linked with Retegui. Bundesliga duo Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt have also met with the striker’s representatives.

Accordingly, whilst Lazio are interested, Retegui won’t likely prove easy to sign.
