Inter Milan will hold contract extension talks with coach Simone Inzaghi following next month’s Champions League final against Man City.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inzaghi’s current contract runs out at the end of next June.

However, it appears very likely that the Nerazzurri will look to extend the 47-year-old’s deal.

The reason for this is that Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has a strong policy of not starting a season with a coach whose contract is one year away from expiring.

Both Marotta and President Steven Zhang have publicly backed Inzaghi to remain next season. As such, the CEO will want to sort out an agreement on a new deal for the coach.

For his part, Inzaghi is relaxed about the situation. The coach feels the support of the club, and expects the matter to be addressed in due time.

Reports suggest that Inter are indeed ready to offer Inzaghi a new deal. The Nerazzurri are also reportedly prepared to give the coach a pay raise, from €5.5 million net per season to €6 million net per season, to reward the way he’s got the team ending the season.

According to the Corriere, however, nothing is settled yet.

Inter will still have a bit more to see before they make their final assessments of Inzaghi.

The coach has taken the team much further in the Champions League than expected, and won the Coppa Italia. However, the Nerazzurri have also slumped below expectations in the league all seasons long.

Accordingly, the Nerazzurri could base their assessments on the remaining three matches.

Inter will aim to wrap up Champions League qualification for next season over the final two matches of the league campaign. Then, there is the Champions League final against Manchester City next month.

If Inter were to finish top four in Serie A and win the Champions League, there would be no doubt. Inter will make extending Inzaghi’s contract an absolute priority.

However, if the team miss out on their objectives, more discussions could be needed to decide on the future with the coach.
