Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expects that Inter Milan-linked defender Nacho Fernandez will wait until the end of the season to decide on his future.

The Los Blancos coach addressed the veteran defender’s situation in a press conference before his team’s final match of the season against Athletic Club, as reported by FCInterNews.

Nacho is reportedly a target for Inter this summer.

The 33-year-old’s current contract with Real expires at the end of this month. As things stand, he does not have an agreement with the Spanish giants on a new deal.

Should Nacho not extend his deal, he will become available on a free transfer.

Reportedly, Inter have already offered the Spaniard a three-year deal. The Nerazzurri want to tempt Nacho to join for free rather than sign a new contract with Real.

Inter will have to strengthen in defense during the summer transfer window.

First, the Nerazzurri must replace Milan Skriniar who will leave to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Moreover, the situations of a number of other defenders at the club look uncertain. All of Stefan de Vrij, Francesco Acerbi, and Danilo D’Ambrosio could potentially be gone next season.

Ancelotti Issues Update On Future Of Inter Milan Target Nacho

Everything will depend on Nacho’s decision, however.

The veteran defender would be free to leave the Santiago Bernabeu should he decide to look for a new adventure. In this case, Inter would welcome the veteran defender with open arms.

On the other hand, Nacho has only ever played for Real Madrid in his career.

The Madrid-born defender came through Los Blancos’ youth ranks and has been a regular in the team for over a decade. He has won numerous titles in the Spanish capital during that period.

Nacho has made a total of 318 appearances for Real Madrid’s senior team to date.

Los Blancos coach Ancelotti was asked about the futures of Nacho as well as ex-Arsenal and Real Betis midfielder Dani Ceballos, whose deal is also expiring.

“He and Ceballos know what we want from them,” the coach explained. “They’ve been very clear, they’ll wait until the end of the season to decide.”
