Lazio are hoping that Inter Milan make an effort to sign midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and spark a bidding war for the Serb’s signature.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Milinkovic-Savic looks all but certain to leave Lazio during this summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old’s contract with the club from the Italian capital runs out at the end of next June. He has no intention of signing an extension.
With their star midfielder not signing a new deal, Lazio want to cash in this summer.
The Biancocelesti understand that this summer window represents their last opportunity to sell Milinkovic-Savic for a big fee.
Lazio Hoping That Inter Milan Interest Drives Up Sergej Milinkovic-Savic Price Tag
Obviously, Lazio’s aim will be to get as high of a fee for Milinkovic-Savic as they can while they are still able to.
For the Biancoclesti, competition for the Serb’s signature could be key in driving a higher final price tag.
In the Premier League the likes of Newcastle United and Arsenal are tracking the 28-year-old. Meanwhile, Serie A giants Juventus are also reportedly keen on signing Milinkovic-Savic.
However, the entrance of Inter into the race for the Serbian international’s signature could really set off a bidding war.
The Nerazzurri have been tracking Milinkovic-Savic for some time. The Nerazzurri’s directors are big fans of the former Genk midfielder.
Meanwhile, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is reportedly very keen on trying to bring back a player that he had enjoyed a very good working relationship with whilst he was in charge of Lazio. The pair had worked together for over five years.
Accordingly, if the Nerazzurri do decide to financially prioritize a move for Milinkovic-Savic, there will be little doubt regarding their commitment.
Thus, Lazio hope, if Inter do decide to move, the final price for the 28-year-old will shoot up.
