The departure of veteran defender Danilo D’Ambrosio from Inter Milan could open the door for Chelsea’s Kalidou Koulibaly to join.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri could say goodbye to the 35-year-old, and then bring in Chelsea star Koulibaly to reinforce the right side of their defense.

D’Ambrosio‘s current contract with Inter runs out at the end of this month.

As things stand, contract talks between the player and the Nerazzurri are not moving towards an agreement on a new deal.

Should he not extend his deal, then D’Ambrosio could leave the Nerazzurri after nearly a decade at the club.

Serie A side Monza are keen on the former Torino man’s signature should he leave.

Danilo D’Ambrosio Exit Could Allow Inter Milan To Move For Kalidou Koulibaly

In the event that D’Ambrosio leaves, there will be a vacancy on the right side of Inter’s defense.

According to Tuttosport, the Nerazzurri already have a very clear idea of how they want to fill it.

Moreover, D’Ambrosio would hardly be the only defender who Inter are looking for a replacement to during the summer window.

Replacing Milan Skriniar is a priority, given that the Slovakian will leave to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Significantly, Skriniar also plays on the right of the back three. Towards the end of the season, Matteo Darmian has been the regular starter on the right, with Skriniar out injured. Darmian started in the Champions League final against Manchester City.

With Skriniar leaving and not just D’Ambrosio, Inter are looking for a real first-choice starter.

The Nerazzurri will not just aim for a player who can replace a veteran like D’Ambrosio as a backup option.

In this sense, Koulibaly would represent a lot of experience and proven quality in the Italian top flight, in spite of his underwhelming stint at Stamford Bridge.
