AC Milan are thinking about making a shock move to try and sign Chelsea-owned striker Romelu Lukaku ahead of Inter Milan.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Rossoneri could try to pull off the utterly improbable deal now that they are close to selling midfielder Sandro Tonali for a massive fee to Newcastle.

Milan look to be on the verge of selling midfielder Tonali to Newcastle.

The exact fee is not yet certain, but the Magpies will offer at least €65 million. The final fee could end up being around €70 million plus add-ons.

The whirlwind negotiation for Tonali is getting close to a conclusion.

Accordingly, the Rossoneri will be flush with cash to try and strengthen in the sudden absence of Tonali.

Among Milan’s plans are to sign a replacement for Tonali in the form of Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi. Moreover, the Rossoneri could also make a major attacking signing, Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram.

Both are also major targets for Inter. Milan are hoping that with their sudden influx of cash, they can beat their city rivals to them, however.

AC Milan Could Make Shock Move For Romelu Lukaku

The most surprising of the Rossoneri’s move for a Nerazzurri target could be for Chelsea-owned striker Lukaku, however.

Inter are hoping to bring the Belgian back on loan from Chelsea for another season.

Reportedly the player also is of one mind only – he wants to return to Inter next season.

However, the Nerazzurri won’t offer Chelsea anything other than a loan deal. Even with both Inter and Lukaku putting pressure on them to hurry up, Chelsea are stalling in loan talks.

On the other hand, Milan could potentially offer the Blues €40 million in straight cash for Lukaku. This could prove a very tempting offer.

Obviously, there is also the player’s decision to consider.

Lukaku has always shown a strong feeling of connection to Inter. The decision to cross the derby divide to join Milan would cause shockwaves around the city.

Hover, the Rossoneri are ready to try.
