Inter Milan striker Samuele Mulattieri will join Sassuolo whether or not midfielder Davide Frattesi comes the other way.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Neroverdi are pushing to sign Mulattieri and that their move for him is not necessarily linked to the fate of Frattesi.

Inter have been in talks with Sassuolo for striker Mulattieri for a couple weeks ago.

The 22-year-old had a strong season on loan with Frosinone in Serie B during the campaign just gone. For this reason, the Lazio-based team signed the striker on a permanent basis, but then Inter brought him right back via a buyback option.

The Nerazzurri’s intention has always been to sell Mulattieri this summer, however.

The fact that Inter have been pursuing Sassuolo midfielder Frattesi meant that the striker could be of great use in that particular set of negotiations. Given the Neroverdi’s interest in Mulattieri, Inter included him in the talks from the very beginning.

Inter’s idea if to sell Marcelo Brozovic to Al-Nassr and then reinvest the fee in a move for Frattesi. The addition of Mulattieri as part of a player-plus-cash offer is meant to make up the rest of Sassuolo’s valuation of Frattesi.

Sassuolo Want Inter Striker Samuele Mulattieri Regardless Of What Happens With Frattesi

Inter haven’t been able to get to the point of closing on a deal for Frattesi, however.

The negotiations with Al-Nassr for Brozovic have dragged on unexpectedly long. It’s not even certain that the Nerazzurri will sell Brozovic at this stage.

Moreover, Sassuolo may well demand a larger fee than Inter want to pay.

Accordingly, it’s certainly quite possible that Inter could miss out on Frattesi.

However, even if that were to happen, it wouldn’t affect the move of Mulattieri to Sassuolo.

The Neroverdi want the striker and will happily wrap up a deal even if they don’t sell Frattesi to Inter.
