Atalanta defender Merih Demiral is pushing to join Inter Milan as the replacement for Milan Skriniar this summer.
This according to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInterNews, who report that the 25-year-old former Juventus and Sassuolo defender’s priority is to make the move to the Nerazzurri as he looks all but certain to leave the Gewiss Arena ahead of next season.
Barring any major surprises, Demiral will leave Atalanta this summer.
Last season a rift formed between the Turkish international, who is under contract with La Dea until the end of June 2026, and his coach Gian Piero Gasperini. He is out of the project in Bergamo and Atalanta will look for a new club.
Inter are one of the most prominently-linked names as a possible next destination for Demiral.
The Nerazzurri had already reportedly been close to signing the Turk during the January transfer window of last season. At the time, they had lined him up as a possible emergency replacement for Milan Skriniar.
Inter were ready to move for Demiral if Paris Saint-Germain had made an acceptable offer to sign Skriniar midseason. In the end, that did not happen and so both Demiral and Skriniar stayed put.
However, that delayed the inevitable. Milan Skriniar has left the Nerazzurri at the end of his contract, and should join PSG imminently.
Danilo D’Ambrosio has also said goodbye so Inter are in major need of a reinforcement on the right side of defense.
Atalanta Defender Merih Demiral Wants Inter Milan
According to SportItalia, Demiral had been all ready to make the move to Inter in January.
The former Bianconeri man had been enthusiastic at the prospect of making the move.
However, in the end Demiral stayed at Atalanta. That has not changed his feelings though.
Not only is the 25-year-old pushing to leave La Dea this summer. He is also, according to SportItalia, hoping that he can make the move to Inter.
