Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is still hoping that goalkeeper Andre Onana isn’t sold to Man United this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Cameroonian could nevertheless be on his way should the Nerazzurri receive a huge financial offer.

Manchester United have reportedly made their opening bid for Andre Onana.

The Red Devils have put forward an offer of €40 million plus €5 million in add-ons. The Nerazzurri have flatly rejected this, however.

Inter are holding out for €60 million and won’t go far below this. They expect United to raise their offer to more or less that asking price, or else no negotiations will be possible.

Now Inter are essentially playing the waiting game. They know that United want Onana, and have received the Premier League giants’ formal offer for the 27-year-old.

However, Inter need to wait and see whether United are serious enough to make a much-improved offer, or if they’ll more or less stop after that low-ball opening bid.

Inzaghi Doesn’t Want To Sell Onana To Man United

Key to the Nerazzurri’s insistence in holding out for a very large fee to sell Onana is their coach’s view of him as an essential player.

Inzaghi has built the team’s style of play around the Cameroonian. He has found that Onana’s technical ability and proactive style with the ball at his feet give a dimension to the team’s buildup play that few other keepers could provide.

Even a replacement like Anatoliy Trubin, Giorgi Mamardashvili, or Marco Carnesecchi would hardly guarantee this characteristic.

Accordingly, the Nerazzurri coach’s preference would be for no sale to take place. His club know this.

However, on the other hand Inter are mindful of the need to bring in cash from somewhere to fund signings.

As such, they will certainly listen to United’s offers, should any more arrive. But a sale will only take place if their high asking price is met.
