Argentine arch-rivals River Plate and Boca Juniors are going head-to-head to sign Inter Milan striker Facundo Colidio.

This according to Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, who reported in a tweet that River are working with the player’s agent, whilst Boca have been negotiating with the Nerazzurri to get a deal done.

Colidio is back at Inter after a loan spell at Tigre since January of 2022.

The Argentine, who joined Inter from Boca in 2017, returned to his home country after a tough period in European football.

Colidio reignited his career during his loan spell with Tigre. There, he formed a strong partnership in attack with Mateo Retegui.

This has led to interest from a number of the country’s biggest clubs in signing him. Meanwhile, Mexican team Toluca are also reportedly keen.

It could be the two very biggest Argentine teams, however, who push the hardest to sign Colidio.

River Plate & Boca Juniors Both Want Inter Milan Striker Colidio

According to Argentine journalist Edu, “Regarding Facundo Colidio, Boca are in advanced talks with Inter.”

“They’re waiting for a response from Colidio, who hasn’t yet agreed to join Boca.”

He then notes that “River are in advanced talks with Berman – a representative of Colidio – and have not yet made an offer to Inter Milan.”

“The two are moving forward in different ways – Boca with the club, and River with the player.”

Since joining Inter from Boca, Colidio never quite found form.

Colidio had a promising spell on loan at Sint-Truiden in the Belgian top flight between 2019 and 2021. However, during the summer transfer window of 2021 things did not work out for the young striker.

Colidio had appeared to be close to a loan move to Austria Vienna for the 2021-22 season. However, that move fell apart close to deadline day.

There was not time enough to locate a different loan club for Colidio before the end of the window.

However, a return to his home country has seen Colidio spread his wings. Now there is plenty of transfer interest.
