Inter want to sign Yann Sommer as a direct Andre Onana replacement & Anatoliy Trubin as more of an investment for the long term.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri’s strategy is to sign both a first-choice keeper for next season as well as one who can inherit the role in seasons to come.

Whilst Onana is still an Inter player, things are moving fast in Manchester United’s efforts to sign the 27-year-old.

Reportedly, the Red Devils have already agreed terms with Onana on a five-year contract. Then, they will soon make Inter an offer for the Cameroonian

Inter are fully bracing themselves for the likelihood of Onana’s exit.

And they have a specific idea to replace him.

The Nerazzurri have been looking at experienced options like Yann Sommer, Keylor Navas, and Hugo Lloris.

Then, there are more youthful profiles such as Anatoliy Trubin, Marco Carnesecchi, and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Meanwhile, Inter had already hoped to go after Guglielmo Vicario, before Tottenham snapped him up.

The departure of captain Samir Handanovic opens the door for Inter to make two goalkeeping signings.

Inter Want Sommer For The Present & Trubin For The Future

The Nerazzurri’s intention is not, however, to simply sign a like-for-like replacement for Onana, and then one for Handanovic.

Inter do not want to bring in the experienced keeper to be the backup option. Rather, they want things the other way around, for now.

Inter have identified Sommer as a player capable of being the first-choice keeper for a couple seasons.

Therefore, he would effectively “replace” Onana rather than Handanovic.

Then, Trubin is Inter’s designated heir to Onana for the future.

They want to sign the Ukrainian, but not with the expectation that he’ll play every match right away.

Rather, Inter want Trubin to be the understudy to Sommer whilst he settles in. Then, in a couple of seasons, they hope that he will be ready to be the starting keeper full-time.
