Romelu Lukaku has told Mauricio Pochettino he’ll return to Chelsea training despite the transfer soap opera with Inter Milan.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Belgian is ready to link up with the Blues squad now that a long-expected move to the Nerazzurri appears to be very much off the table.

The Lukaku transfer saga has taken an extraordinary turn in the past day or so.

First, Inter finally seemed to reach an agreement with Chelsea on a transfer yesterday. After weeks of negotiations, the clubs were finally ready to shake hands.

Then, it was the player’s green light that was missing.

Despite the fact that Lukaku had always indicated that his priority was to return to Inter, he did not return the Nerazzurri’s phone calls when it seemed like the time to seal the move was at hand.

As it transpired, the reason for this was that the player is in talks with Juventus. In response, Inter abruptly pulled the plug on the move.

Barring yet another big twist, Lukaku will not make the switch to Inter as anticipated.

Romelu Lukaku Tells Mauricio Pochettino He’ll Be Back In Chelsea Training As Inter Milan Move Collapses

With the striker’s transfer to Inter now dead in the water, the big question is – what’s next for Lukaku?

Juventus could, of course, move in. They would however have to sell Dusan Vlahovic first.

Meanwhile, Al-Hilal and AC Milan have also reportedly shown interest.

And then, other clubs could always come forward. If Lukaku isn’t headed to Inter, then he is back on the market.

One further possibility is represented by the Belgian simply staying put.

Lukaku is still under contract with Chelsea. If he and the Blues cannot find a new club for him, then he will simply remain at Stamford Bridge next season.

And according to the Gazzetta, the 30-year-old has taken a step towards reconciling with this possibility.

Lukaku has indicated that he’ll be back in training with the rest of the squad on Monday.
