Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi wants to sign Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who name the Spaniard as Inzaghi’s preferred target with the search for a striker now underway following the shock end of the Nerazzurri’s Romelu Lukaku pursuit.

Everything is now over between Inter and Lukaku.

After weeks of trying to get a deal done with Chelsea for the Belgian, the Nerazzurri have pulled the plug. They were, to put it mildly, not impressed with the player’s antics negotiating with Juventus.

This means that the Nerazzurri now must consider alternatives to the 30-year-old.

And, according to the Gazzetta, Inter’s directors and coach held an emergency meeting yesterday. A key theme of their discussions was who they will sign instead of Lukaku.

Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi has endorsed one name in particularly, reports that Gazzetta.

Inter Coach Inzaghi Wants Alvaro Morata

According to the Gazzetta, Inzaghi believes that former Real Madrid, Juventus, and Chelsea striker Morata is the right option.

The 30-year-old would bring Serie A and Champions League experience.

Moreover, Morata is reportedly close to signing a contract extension with Atletico Madrid that will see his release clause drop to €12 million.

Whilst the fact that the striker’s wages aren’t covered by the Growth Decree would be one obstacle, there’s no doubt that Morata would be financially attainable for the Nerazzurri.

Moreover, if Inter do get a deal done for Morata at that fee, they could divert transfer funds elsewhere.

The Spaniard is hardly the only possible target for the Nerazzurri, however. Porto’s Mehdi Taremi is also on their shortlist, although they’d have to go head-to-head with city rivals AC Milan.

The Gazzetta also report that Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri has been offered to Inter.

Then, Arsenal and USMNT striker Folarin Balogun is a big name on Inter’s list.

As for Spezia striker M’bala Nzola, however, the Gazzetta report that he would only arrive as a replacement for Joaquin Correa. Inter don’t see the 26-year-old Angolan international as an alternative to Lukaku.
