Lazio are ready to rival Inter Milan to sign Udinese midfielder Lazar Samardzic.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Biancocelesti have identified the 21-year-old former RB Leipzig star as one of their main targets to replace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Last season saw Samardzic emerge as a top young talent in Serie A.

The German-born Serbian international enjoyed something of a breakout campaign, playing a more and more prominent role for Udinese as the season wore on.

This has led to some suggestions that the Friulani won’t be able to hold onto Samardzic for much longer. The biggest teams in Serie A are reportedly starting to ponder a transfer.

Inter are one of the teams who have been strongly linked with Samardzic in recent weeks.

The Nerazzurri want to sign one more midfielder to complete the depth chart for next season, and their objective is to sign a young player with room to grow.

Meanwhile, the likes of Napoli and the Juventus are reportedly also tracking Samardzic.

However, a new major candidate to sign the German-born Serbian international has also emerged.

Lazio Line Up Inter Target Samardzic As Milinkovic-Savic Backup

Milinkovic-Savic’s big money move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal has left Lazio with a big hole to fill in midfield.

The Biancocelesti have been looking at a few potential options.

Recent reports have identified Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski as a major target for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

However, that pursuit has come to nothing. And, the Corriere report, the Polish international was never the real objective.

Rather, the newspaper report, Lazio are thinking about either Samardzic or Daichi Kamada.

Kamada had looked close to joining AC Milan on a free transfer this summer after his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt expired. However, the Rossoneri never wrapped up the move.

But according to the Corriere, Kamada is likely to instead move to Atletico Madrid.l

That leaves Samardzic as Lazio’s major midfield target.

Udinese will want at least €20 million for the 21-year-old. But given the fee that Lazio received for Milinkovic-Savic, price may be not hurdle in bringing Samardzic to the Italian capital.
