Inter Milan could stick with the “conservative option” of keeping Filip Stankovic as a backup goalkeeper for next season as Anatoliy Trubin talks have stalled.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri could then try and wait until next summer to sign Trubin from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Trubin remains a significant target for Inter in attack.

The Nerazzurri see the 21-year-old as an ideal candidate to grow into the first-choice role in the seasons to come.

Whilst they are targeting Yann Sommer as a short-term option, Inter believe that Trubin can hold down the fort in goal for well over a decade into the future.

Therefore, signing Trubin remains one of Inter’s major goals for the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

But the same obstacle that they have been struggling with for weeks now remains – distance from Shakhtar regarding a fee.

Inter Milan Could Stick With Stankovic Now – Move For Trubin Next Summer

Inter’s hope has been that the fact that Trubin’s contract with Shakhtar expires at the end of next June would mean that the Ukrainian giants would be willing to accept a lower offer.

But so far, Shakhtar have not wavered. They reportedly want a fee of around €30 million.

This is miles away from the €10-12 million that the Nerazzurri hope to do a deal for.

Unless either or both parties significantly alter their stance, a move for Trubin to Inter looks unlikely this summer.

However, that wouldn’t be the end of it – Inter would then look to sign the 21-year-old for free in twelve months’ time.

If Inter fail to sign Trubin, they’ll need to change their plans. The Nerazzurri will want three keepers in the squad for next summer.

Sommer will in all likelihood sign. And Inter have already signed Raffaele Di Gennaro as a backup option.

On the one hand, Inter could go for a Plan B target. Sampdoria’s Emil Audero is reportedly an idea in this respect.

But, Sky suggest, Inter could also go a different route.

Filip Stankovic will, along with Di Gennaro, be Inter’s goalkeeper in preseason. Depending on how the 21-year-old Serb does, the Nerazzurri could decide to simply keep Stankovic and Di Gennaro on as the two backups to Sommer for next season.

Then, the Nerazzurri could try again for Trubin when he’s available for nothing next summer.

A move for Trubin on a free transfer would be more straightforward in 2024 if the Nerazzurri don’t sign a different keeper this summer.
