Midfielder Stefano Sensi has convinced everyone at Inter Milan that he is worth another chance this season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri will almost certainly head into the season with the 28-year-old as the final option in their midfield rotation.

For a long time, it had seemed as though a summer exit from Inter was inevitable for Sensi.

The reason for this is that the Italian international had seemingly lost the trust of his club.

This would have absolutely nothing to do with Sensi’s quality. Few doubt what he can contribute when he is fully fit.

It is the latter aspect that has been a problem for Sensi.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi in particular has seemingly never fully backed the former Sassuolo midfielder, whose persistent injury problems have frequently limited his impact and availability.

Moreover, Inzaghi wants his midfielders to have a certain physical robustness – the exact opposite of Sensi’s condition.

Stefano Sensi Convinces Inter Milan To Keep Him This Season

One of the final tasks that Inter have before the summer transfer window is to sort out the identity of the “sixth” midfielder in the depth chart.

Last season, it had been Roberto Gagliardini. However, with the 29-year-old out the door, the Nerazzurri have been evaluating their options.

For a long time, Lazar Samardzic had looked like he’d be the man to inherit Gagliardini’s role.

But the Serb’s move to the Nerazzurri from Udinese blew up in spectacular fashion, virtually the soap opera of the summer.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri have been back to square one.

And one possibility has been to scan the market for other transfer options. Roberto Pereyera on a free transfer has looked to be one low-cost possibility, although he is now close to joining Sampdoria.

Therefore, keeping Sensi around represents another possibility.

The 28-year-old has undeniably had an impressive preseason. He was one of Inter’s standout players in friendlies against Paris Saint-Germain and Red Bull Salzburg.

But the big question is the same as ever. This is not the first time Sensi has caught the eye in preseason – but can he keep this level up over a full campaign?

Injuries will always be a cloud over Sensi at this point. But according to the Gazzetta, the midfielder has convinced Inter that he has made big changes in his personal care routine. These could minimize the risk as much as possible.

As far as being a depth option over a long, gruelling season fighting on multiple fronts, Inter are ready to put their faith in Sensi.
