Inter have confirmed that forward Joaquin Correa has joined Ligue 1 side Marseille on loan with a possible purchase obligation.

The Nerazzurri released an official statement clarifying the structure of the deal between themselves and the French giants.

It’s official – Correa won’t be an Inter player this season.

The 29-year-old will not play a minute for the Nerazzurri this campaign. The ex-Lazio and Sevilla man was an unused substitutes during Inter’s Serie A opener against Monza.

Instead, Correa will attempt to get his career back on track at Marseille.

The Argentine has plenty of experience in Serie A as well as La Liga – however, the French top flight will be a new challenge for him.

Marseille have decided to make a deal to sign Correa despite the fact that persistent injuries have disrupted his form for much of the past two seasons since he joined Inter from the Biancocelesti.

Inter Confirm – Joaquin Correa Joins Marseille On Loan With Potential Purchase Obligation

Inter have been trying to offload Correa for much of the summer, without success.

However, in recent days the Nerazzurri changed their strategy a bit.

Up until the last week or two, Inter had seemingly only wanted to listen to offers to sell Correa permanently. They are naturally keen to sell the €30 million flop once and for all.

However, no clubs came forward with serious interest in signing Correa on these terms.

Therefore, Inter started also considering loan offers for the 29-year-old.

And this seemed to open the floodgates in terms of interest in Correa’s signature.

Teams like Torino, RB Leipzig, Bournemouth, and Real Betis all registered interest in loaning Correa recently.

But it is Marseille who have swooped in and completed the deal. The Ligue 1 side worked quickly to wrap up negotiations with both Inter and Correa.

Inter confirm that Correa has made the move to the Stadio Velodrome on loan, at least initially.

However, Marseille will have the chance to sign the Argentine on a permanent basis next summer. They have a purchase option on the player.

Moreover, as Inter confirm, that option can become a mandatory obligation under certain conditions.

Widespread reports suggest that those conditions would be Marseille qualifying for the Champions League.
