Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta reveals that the club is looking to poach a player with different characteristics on deadline day.

The 66-year-old was representing the club at the Champions League group stage draw in Monte Carlo.

The Nerazzurri joined Benfica, Red Bull Salzburg and Real Sociedad in Group D. The club enters the competition as last season’s runner-up.

So as Marotta explains, improving on last season only means winning the prestigious European trophy. Thus, he urges the club to be ambitious and believe in its chances.

“Improving on last season means winning the competition. It’s right to be ambitious because Inter’s history speaks for itself,” said the Nerazzurri CEO in his interview with Sky Sport via FcInter1908.

“We’re looking to do well in the Champions League. We’ll try to do so with everything at our disposal.”

Naturally, Moratta ought to comment on the transfer market. He leaves the door open for a new arrival, even if he believes that the club already possesses a solid squad.

“So far, it’s been a very strange market. The Saudi Arabian interference has changed the balance.

“Our world is a bit of a circus. Sometimes you think you managed to sign a player but it all vanishes in a moment. Yet, we did well overall.”

“We’ve all worked together to put a solid team together and reinforce the culture of victory.

“We even declined some enticing offers for our players in an act of conscience and responsibility on the part of the owners.

“A new midfielder? We’re happy with the squad. but we have an obligation to seize opportunities based on what’s available on the market. But it’s not easy.

“However, there are still 24 hours left and I spoke to Ausilio about concrete things a little while ago.

“I don’t want to reveal too much and say who we contacted. I think that in any case we will pull off something on the market, I am optimistic.

“We are all happy with the squad we have but we want to round it off by adding a player with characteristics that we currently lack.”

For the record, news reports have been linking the Nerazzurri with Sassuolo midfielder Maxime Lopez and Spurs outcast Tanguy Ndombele.

Nevertheless, Simone Inzaghi reportedly favors Ndombele due to his physical attributes and top-level experience.
