Inter Milan will begin contract extension talks with captain Lautaro Martinez during the autumn.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri should likely agree a wage increase to in the region of €7-7.5 million with the Argentine to extend his deal until the end of June 2028.

Argentine international Martinez is now Inter’s captain, having inherited the armband from Samir Handanovic in the summer.

The striker’s start to the season has certainly seen him repay the Nerazzurri’s trust in him. Martinez has already scored five goals in just three matches for Inter so far this season.

Martinez is currently under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

The former Racing Club striker had signed an extension with the Nerazzurri in the fall of 2021. He is currently on wages of around €6.2 million net per season – this makes Martinez one of Inter’s highest earners.

According to FCIN, however, Inter are now ready to try and agree a new long-term deal with Martinez.

This would be to reflect the 26-year-old’s importance to the team, which has grown even compared to two years ago.

According to FCIN, this fall will be when the Nerazzurri begin talks with Martinez and his representatives. The Argentine’s agent Alejandro Camano has already said that he expects a contract offer sometime in the near future.

What is clear is that Inter will offer Martinez a significant pay raise.

FCIN report that the Nerazzurri are aiming for an agreement on a new salary of around €7-7.5 million.

Meanwhile, FCIN report, Inter want Martinez to put pen to paper on a new five-year deal. They will offer an extension until the end of June 2028.

Martinez has already rejected several offers whilst an Inter player.

This summer, clubs from the Saudi Pro League tried to tempt the Argentine with a huge money offer. And Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly a big fan of his countryman Martinez.

Premier League giants Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Nerazzurri striker in the recent past.

Barcelona and Manchester City have also chased Martinez during his time at Inter.

But Inter want to make sure to send a signal to all interested parties that Martinez isn’t leaving.

They are hoping to wrap up negotiations with their captain within the next few months.
