The agent of Lautaro Martinez has issued an update on the Inter Milan captain’s negotiations on a contract extension.

Speaking to Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, via FCInterNews, Martinez’s representative Alejandro Camano said that there is still work to be done, but that the talks are ongoing.

Martinez’s new contract at Inter now looks to be much more of a “when” rather than an “if.”

That has, in truth, been the case for some time.

Inter have made extending their captain’s contract a priority. Martinez’s current deal runs out at the end of June 2026, but the club want to make it 2028.

The 26-year-old is right at the centre of the Nerazzurri project.

He is the team’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons. And his goal this afternoon against Hellas Verona took him one step further towards repeating that feat this time around.

Martinez has just gotten back from a minor muscle injury.

And the Argentine’s return to the pitch confirms just how important he is to this Inter team.

Agent: Lautaro Martinez Inter Contract Extension Not Done, But Talks Ongoing

Inter are keen to extend their captain’s contract as soon as possible.

The 26-year-old is not without suitors. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Nerazzurri striker in the recent past.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri will want to make a “hands off” statement with a new deal for Martinez.

Reports have suggested that Martinez should put pen to paper very soon.

Maybe even before the end of January.

But the player’s agent has put the brakes slightly – he believes that more talks are necessary.

“There is still some distance between where we are and where Inter are,” Camano made clear.

“The contract hasn’t been agreed yet,” he continued.

“However, we are in talks,” Martinez’s agent concluded.
