After yesterday’s Champions League final loss to PSG, Inter Milan must contemplate the prospect that this season has been a complete failure.
However, today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, argue that this is not quite the case.
Inter Milan fell to the most humiliating of defeats in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain yesterday.
The Nerazzurri looked completely out of their depth. In truth, there was nothing harsh about the 5-0 scoreline by which PSG ran out winners.
Moreover, this was Inter’s last opportunity to take home silverware this season. Accordingly, there was a real sense that this season, Inter crashed and burned.
Does Humiliation Vs PSG Make This Season A Failure For Inter?

In the view of Tuttosport, however, the ending to this season cannot define the campaign as a whole.
Through much of the season, Inter Milan have shown themselves to be a highly formidable team.
Nowhere was this more the case than in their Champions League knockout wins over Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Those victories crowned a season which saw Inter at their very best in Europe.
The disappointment in domestic competitions put a lot of pressure on Inter in the latter stages of the Champions League.
Up until the final, the Nerazzurri responded to that pressure. Spectacularly falling at the final hurdle has certainly changed the mood. But it hasn’t totally erased what Inter achieved.
After UCL loss, Scudetto loss hurts more.
as an alumni of humiliated 02’s lost from lazio, i can guarantee you guys to move on, and maybe lots are here from that time too. but at this time around, let’s grieve together, be angry or whatever, but don’t lose hope. because from 02, inter had undergone an upgrade system that led to scudetto for years after. so, let’s just hope everything settle from now on.
as fans, its unacceptable. we can understand if we lost but not with that score n awful performance.
yes simone doesnt have depth squad nor unlimited budged, but the perform is just unacceptable.
revolution is a must, coz losing like that in final game is traumatizing. we need big move, something impactfull right away to switch n boost that mood/mentality.
Inzaghi maybe not that great or that perfect, but people are blaming him for bottled the scudetto, or cups really nonsense. Check the roster, we easily become a fighting for top 4 team in serie A. People say how talented squad we have, but actually besides Bastoni, nobody else is even at top tier on their position. I dont know if Inzaghi stays or not, but I guarantee no other coach can lead this squad to the level as Inzaghi does.
True my friend, and there is no coach like Inzaghi who is not in demand (like Conte) but brings income to the Club. It should be noted that Inzaghi brings the most income of any coach Inter has ever had. From Inter Management’s point of view they find it difficult to find a coach like this.
We’ve become Arsenal and it will all be downhill from here if Inzaghi stays, yes we earned plenty of cash but most is going to owner’s pocket anyway, there will be massive exodus of aging players, some key players are showing sign of degrading performance, new players need time to adjust. To blame it on quality of players is just simplistic way to mask the real problem, our one dimensional tactic has been pretty much exposed since the first Milan lost, and it is amusing to see the coach to come up with same formula everytime, if after 4 years Inzaghi didn’t bring versatility to our game there is no point hoping for another year, PSG is no different, very quick and discipline in transition, they put players in pockets, keep switching sides to hurt us with pace since our defensive line is static and unaware of these players movement behind them, certainly the coaches didnt study how Nice and Strasbourg dismantle PSG, or how Atalanta beats Milan and Juve without problem, or Crystal Palace beat Villa all using 3421 formation. We did try it at the end of the season and had really some good wins, but it was all too late and we are going back to same formation in final the he knew all season it didn’t work.
Horrorshow, no one ready to see this
Psycologically made me avoid any social media, 5-0 was not the acceptable result in the final match. Shame on all of you. You all show nothing, no grit no mentality, absolutely nothing. You came into the final with those lost faces, empty brain, slow legs. Is it really none of you believe we can win this? or at least can give a match? You all not worthy wearing this shirt.
I hope this was not true, humiliated and write down in history maybe people will remember this ini next 2-3 decades from now. And that was your present for us fans.
This is the first time me wathcing final with all the journey, a team already lost before it started. Thas was the lowest you can give to this color and suprisingly you give that in the match where everyone belive & hope you all capable to at least do something then you’re not.
If i can, i want ro erase this from my memory, f***ing disgusting, cant even see faces of this bunch of loser.
Davide predicted all of this. lol
Well he predicted many things tho…
Where the season hasn’t been a failure is financially…. basically, we’ve done an Arsenal- won nothing, but Brought in nearly €200 million in prize money…. what is crucial is how we spend whatever Oaktree allows us to spend…. The six biggest things for.me are Pace, creativity, pace, creativity, PACE and CREATIVITY!!!!
I would add 4 more points, dribbling, dribbling, take ons and take ons,.
Fully agree!! This is my biggest question mark with Inzaghi (and as you know, I am an Inzahi fan)…. Wingers have always been my favourite players, but unless Inzaghi is prepared to alter his formation, we won’t be seeing any!! So many teams have exploited our weaknesses by having players with the ability to take a man on, 1 on 1…. we need some of the same!!
I wouldn’t mind if Inzaghi stays, but only if he change the formation to 4-3-2-1 or 4-2-3-1, and managment buy him younger, faster players. We got rid of our youth far too easy and cheap (Stankovic, Esposito, Zanotti, Fabbian, Casadei, Gnonto). Some of them could have been first team regulars by now, others could’ve been sold for several times more money than they were. We can’t bring much better coach anyway, Fabregas, Chivu unproven yet. We saw how Juventus went with Motta. Mancini isn’t among the best coaches in world for at least 10 years now. From Italy the best choice would be Italiano, out of free and possible choices, who actually won some trophies there are Schmidt, Rose and Clement
None of them having warrior mentality for final, not a single player can ring a bell, none believe can win or at least try to give a match.
This whole team sleep big time in the final.
That’s why many teams push their academy players to play and develop, cause they grow up to live and die for that team, not like us, pushing away high prospect kids to bring players who are in their retirement years. There shouldn’t be more than 6-7 players out of 23 or 25 man in squad who have 30+ years, and of them maybe 2 over 33+ years. And we have half team who are in their zenith years, or who should have retired by now
don’t know why we are reacting the way some of us are. we have invested peanuts in our team in the last 4years. we have only relied on roma and Lazio rejects and free’ish transfers. the only reason we were even in the reckoning was Inzaghi. this was the exact same team Cunte left for dead, Inzaghi picked it up without ANY financial backing and kept us competitive. we have NO superstars in our team, just average players playing like super stars.. the fluidity Inzaghi brought to this team is remarkable. When Cunte left and we had to sell players the time was ripe for another banter era! but we stayed competitive. we have outdone ourselves, unfortunately we ended up having the oldest team in the UCL AND serie a, and we didn’t have the legs to play 60matches a season! almost 20 more than Napoli.. and even then they managed to win by Only one point.. i.e they managed to DRAW one more game than us. With rejects Inzaghi won serie a once, and came second by ONE point twice! took us to TWO UCL finals, and won us a few supercoppas.. yes some of his subs and lack of reliance on youngsters is suspect, but show some respect! our youngsters are aslani and bisseck.. we do not have Yamals or doue on the bench and Inzaghi is not playing them. give credit where it is due.
frattessi?
he’s a disappointment as a midfielder. he is useful only as a second striker or centre forward. psg midfield would have slaughtered him..
Good to see something other than gloom here today… and gloating about their alleged “predictions”. Where would we be if it wasn’t for a little optimism within our team?
But now is the time to put the money where the hopes in this team are.
disappointing does not suffice. it’s an embarrassing season. I’ll never forget 5-0. we cannot compete in the champions League we got lucky each time with the draw in cl when we made the final. the refusal to play young players in Italy is not acceptable. even worse 5 0 will burn this team because now this team knows they r no where near good against the best. losing the scudetto for no reason is a calamity.
In the CL final I wasn’t expecting to see Asllani, Darmian and Bisseck but it was a horror show from other players who usually perform better why not they just stop playing at the back and go long with numbers instead of only two players. Inzaghi wasn’t brave and that was translated to the players who were frankly playing to avoid a yellow card. The total shut off when they knew they were not winning was depressing to see. Many players must go starting with Correa, Arna, Taremi, Asslani, Mikhi, Darmian, Acebri, Bisseck and Asllani. Inter can still do well in the league but in the CL it’s all about who has the most money and Inter have owners who are not interested in investing anything so reaching the semi or round of 16 should be the target to simply avoid humiliation. Frateesi must stay as he’s the only one who can score goals in midfield from open play seeing Asllani playing the final instead of the guy who scored the goal to reach it was heartbreak for the guy
Cassano said it and he was right. I can’t wait for his comments on this abysmal season. We lost the Scudetto by a few points, lost the UCL final by the widest goal margin in history and lost to a terrible Milan team. Inzaghi was finally exposed for what he is, an average, mid table coach. I hope Inter appoint Mancini. In fact I would take any coach who doesn’t Utilize this stupid 3 man defense formation. I HATE this formation and the fact that it stifles creativity.
Any coach? Take Allegri
Of course it’s a failure on a sporting level, not a financial level.
The team we had as old as it is… is better than bilan Napoli and bologna and they all won one trophy.
