Como’s head coach, Cesc Fabregas, has explained his decision to turn down an approach from Inter Milan earlier this summer.
During a recent interview via FCInterNews, the Spaniard reiterated his commitment to Como’s project.
Inter parted company with Simone Inzaghi at the end of the European club season.
Despite the club’s best effort to keep him at San Siro, the 49-year-old chose Al-Hilal’s lucrative offer.
And with the 2025 FIFA World Cup around the corner, the Nerazzurri had little time to find a replacement.
Cesc Fabregas had been the club’s first choice.
Indeed, the 38-year-old has become one of Europe’s most exciting young coaches after just one year at Como.
Fabregas helped the Lariani secure Serie A survival in their first season back in the top flight in 20 years.
However, the former Arsenal manager rejected the Nerazzurri out of loyalty to Como.
Therefore, Inter turned to Cristian Chivu.
Cesc Fabregas Explains Why He Turned Down Inter Milan

“I’m very happy here,” he admitted.
“I’ve said that to the club from day one, and I believe I’ve always been very honest. I listened to people – not just with the idea of leaving.”
Then, he confirmed he never second-guessed his decision to stay at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.
“I’m very curious and sincere. I never had any doubts. And I’m very close to the president and sporting director Carlalberto Ludi.
“I signed a four-year contract, and you do not do that unless you believe in a solid project.”
Fabregas’ rejection was a bitter pill to swallow. Yet, Inter reacted quickly to sign Chivu.
The 44-year-old failed to impress at the Club World Cup, as Inter crashed out in the opening knockout round.
However, the Romanian has plenty of time to prepare his team for the new season.
Indeed, the squad will start preparing for the upcoming campaign tomorrow.
Fabregas wanted to have a say in transfers. They said no. He went back to como.
For me, Fabregas was as big a risk as Chivu…. I’m glad we ended up with the Inter treble winner….
Fabregas try your best, after one year in Serie a it have no way he could have managed Inter. Everyone knows he lacked specific badges.
I won’t be surprised if he’s relegated. Remember teams in Italy or elsewhere in modern football can figure out your play very quickly then it comes down to player quality and experience. He actually thinks he has better clubs lined up for him but I can see him relegated since so many teams have strengthen and getting points will be more important than how a team plays.
if he signed for inter you would have said “the next up and coming manager”!
It’s obviously clear the financial backings from a small team and a big team is different. Not meeting your targets like not reaching the CL or winning the scudetto is far different than actually getting relegated which is a real possibility for him and will hurt any manager’s career. He must’ve known that but lets see how he will do next season. The script is after getting noticed from big clubs you don’t play with that chance and his mindset is clearly delusional thinking serie a teams will just fold and not adapt to his playing style which would’ve been a different case if he moved to a bigger team
I tend to agree with you on this
LOL… OKAY
