Inter Milan linked Monza goalkeeper Alessio Cragno is close to joining Sassuolo.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the 29-year-old will make the switch to the Mapei Stadium on an initial loan deal containing an option to buy, and that the Nerazzurri will not be in his future.
Inter have reportedly been keeping tabs on Cragno as a potential low-cost solution in goal.
The Nerazzurri must replace both of Andre Onana and Samir Handanovic this summer.
There are specific ideas in mind to overhaul the goalkeeping positions. Cragno is hardly at the top of the shortlist.
Bayern Munich veteran Yann Sommer is one player on the Nerazzurri’s radar, as are Anatoliy Trubin and Emil Audero.
Then, the Nerazzurri are keeping their options. Players like Giorgi Mamardashvili, Keylor Navas, Hugo Lloris, and Marco Carnesecchi are also on their radar.
Cragno would have represented a reliable option with Serie A experience. Moreover, the Italian international would likely come cheap given that he is out of favour at Monza.
No Inter Move For Alessio Cragno – Close To Making The Switch To Sassuolo
According to Sky, Cragno is in fact close to deciding on his next destination.
The 29-year-old will join Sassuolo. Sky report that the Neroverdi are close to wrapping up the deal, on the basis of an initial loan deal containing an option to buy the player on a permanent basis.
Cragno joined the Brianzoli on loan from Cagliari last summer. The Lombard team brought him in from Cagliari as a reinforcement for their first ever season in Serie A.
However, ex-Inter keeper Michele Di Gregorio ended up keeping his spot in goal after helping Monza to promotion.
Di Gregorio was one of the outstanding goalkeepers in Serie A last season. Therefore, Cragno hardly got a look in.
Monza signed the 29-year-old on a permanent basis, purely because of a purchase obligation in his loan deal.
However, a move to a different club could be on the cards for Cragno given his lack of playing time behind Di Gregorio.
