Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio’s two-match ban has been confirmed after the Nerazzurri’s appeal to have it reduced to just one match was officially rejected.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 34-year-old will miss Friday’s Serie A match against Salernitana after having the length of his suspension following the Nerazzurri’s loss to Juventus upheld.

Towards the end of Inter’s loss to Juventus just before the international break, D’Ambrosio and Bianconeri midfielder Leandro Paredes were involved in a physical altercation.

The incident saw both players sent off, although the Nerazzurri defender was suspended for two matches whilst the Bianconeri man escaped with just a one-match ban.

In addition, both of the duo were handed fines.

Inter decided to appeal the suspension, in the hopes that whilst the 34-year-old was always going to miss out on Saturday’s league match against Fiorentina, he could potentially be available for the clash with Salernitana later this week.

However, the decision has been made by the sporting court in Italy to reject the Nerazzurri’s appeal, so D’Ambrosio will not be eligible to be called up when the Nerazzurri travel to Campania to face the Granata this coming Friday.

The fine that was handed down to the 34-year-old former Torino defender, on the other hand, was cancelled, reports the Gazzetta.

Whilst D’Ambrosio is hardly a regular in Inter’s starting eleven at the age of 34, he has shown his experience on a number of occasions, including winning praise for helping the team see out their Champions League tie against Porto.

Meanwhile, the versatile defender had come on to fill in at left-wingback against the Bianconeri before the break, following an injury to Federico Dimarco.

Reports have suggested that contract extension talks are underway between the Nerazzurri and the 34-year-old, whose current deal runs out at the end of June, although there is no hurry.

Should D’Ambrosio not sign a new deal with Inter, Monza are among the Serie A clubs interested in bringing him in for next season.
