Inter feel confident that they are in a position to get a deal done to sign Tigre and Italy breakout star striker Mateo Retegui during the summer transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri feel they’re in pole position to sign the 23-year-old who would cost around €20 million, potentially offering striker Facundo Colidio as part of a deal.

Retegui has emerged as one of Inter’s major attacking targets for the summer, although the fact that the price tag for his signature has shot up off the back of his impressive performances for the Italian national team could pose an obstacle.

There are certainly no shortage of teams interested in the 23-year-old’s signature.

There are also Eintracht Frankurt tracking the young striker, whilst teams in the Premier League such as Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace also have him on their radar.

Retegui has also been linked with Lazio in Serie A, as well as Udinese and Atalanta, and even AC Milan and Juventus.

Accordingly, it will hardly be a straightforward task to win the race for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Nevertheless, Tuttosport report, Inter feel confident that they are in a position where they can lay the groundwork and the sign Retegui during the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri have already held meetings with the player’s representatives.

One of the main potential obstacles to signing Retegui for Inter would certainly be missing out on the Champions League, however.

The fact that there is currently uncertainty around whether or not the Nerazzurri will finish in the top four in Serie A has meant that they have been holding off on making any firm financial plans, and this has included their pursuit of Retegui.

However, a key factor could also be Inter’s ability to offer Colidio as part of a deal.
