Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta will break his silence regarding the failed Milan Skriniar contract talks at the end of this season.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport journalists at the Milano Football Week event, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta stated that he plans to address the situation with Milan Skriniar leaving, at the end of the season in more detail.

Milan Skriniar will leave Inter this summer six years after joining from Sampdoria. He will sign for Paris Saint-Germain once his contract with Inter Milan expires in June this year.

The 28-year-old’s agent Roberto Sistici hinted at the reasons for leaving in a public interview. Moreover, Skriniar himself gave his side of the story to Inter ultras group the Curva Nord.

The Nerazzurri had had the chance to sell the Slovakian to PSG last summer, but declined the Parisians’ offers. Adding further complications, Skriniar is something of a forgotten man at Inter due to injury.

The defender underwent surgery last month for a back problem.

The only time that Skriniar has played for Inter since picking up a back injury at the end of February was a brief cameo from the bench against Porto in the Champions League.

It is very possible that Skriniar has already played his last match for Inter.

Beppe Marotta To Open Up About Milan Skriniar Situation

Inter Milan CEO Beppa Marotta is very obviously not happy with how the Milan Skriniar contract situation ended.

When asked about the matter, he said that “I’d like to talk about it after the season ends.”

“It certainly could have been resolved in a better way,” he admitted, “but I want to talk about it later, to protect the club.

“If he can recover for the final, then the coach will make a decision,” Marotta said of the prospect of Skriniar playing in the Champions League final, should Inter make it that far.

“His quality isn’t up for debate, but he hasn’t trained for two months, so he could struggle to get up to the level of the competition.”

“It’ll be the coach’s decision in any event,” the CEO said of Skriniar in a prospective Champions League final.

Of the situation as a whole, Marotta admitted that “There’s still a lot of bitterness.”

AC Milan Megastar Rafael Leao Was Close To Joining Inter Milan

Marotta also revealed an unknown fact about AC Milan star Rafael Leao.

The Portuguese international forward is a hugely important player for the Rossoneri. In the past couple seasons, the former Lille and Sporting CP has frequently been decisive for Milan.

Leao had been linked with a move to Inter whilst he was at Ligue 1 side Lille.

Asked if the Portuguese international had been close to joining Inter, Marotta replied “Yes, I can say that much.”

“But then we made other decisions,” he added.

Leao missed the first tie of the Champions League semifinal tie against Inter. The 23-year-old’s absence was evident when the Rossoneri lost 2-0.

Since then AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has stated that he expects Leao to be back for the second leg.

When fit, the pace and technical ability of the Portuguese winger changes the dynamic of the tie and makes things difficult for Inter.

Asked about the prospect of Leao being fit, Marotta said that “When your opponent miss important players, it can potentially give you an advantage.”

“But the strength of a team is in the whole,” the executive stressed.

“I respect Leao, but they also have other good players.”

Marotta Addresses Chelsea-Owned Romelu Lukaku’s Future

Marotta also addressed questions on Chelsea-owned striker Romelu Lukaku.

It has been reported that the Belgian is likely to go back to Chelsea this summer. Lukaku is currently only at Inter on loan, until the end of the season.

Whilst Inter could still try to bring Lukaku back next season, his subpar season may mean that they decline to do so.

“I think that the matter of the season having been a strange one as a whole is also applicable to him,” Marotta said when asked about Lukaku’s chances of staying.

“He had a semi-injury which turned into a full-blown injury, that’s where his preparation got disrupted,” the CEO said.

“Let’s also not forget that the player still belongs to Chelsea,” Marotta noted, “and we don’t know their intentions.”

“If the new coach he wants to keep him, that precludes any discussion,” he added.

“He has integrated very well into us and the city, he always pushes intensely and is a quality player, so having him here is always a positive,” Marotta said of the 30-year-old.

The Nerazzurri CEO also had words for Lukaku’s strike partner Lautaro Martinez.

“He’s growing up, he’s 25 right now,” he said of the Argentine.

“At that age, it shows great strength to be made captain.”

“He’s a very good player, and also a person with great values,” he added.

Marotta Reflects On Inter Milan’s Failed Pursuit Of Paulo Dybala

Marotta was then asked about current Roma forward Paulo Dybala.

The 29-year-old Argentine international had looked close to joining Inter last summer. The player was available on a free transfer from Juventus after not agreeing on a contract extension.

Inter’s interest in Dybala was very public. In the end, the Argentine’s patience ran out as the Nerazzurri never wrapped up the signing, and he joined Roma instead.

Marotta has a good relationship with Dybala. The Nerazzurri CEO signed the Argentine for Juventus from Palermo in 2015, whilst the CEO of the club.

“I have an affectionate relationship with him,” the Inter executive said of Dybala.

“We [Juventus] brought him in from Palermo when he was a young player, he’s a wonderful lad and any manager who’s worked with him would love to have him in the team.

“There was no way to fit him in because we already have four strikers,” Marotta added.

“He was right to go to Roma.”

Asked whether there would be a chance of his crossing paths with Dybala, Marotta replied that “I don’t know, I wish him luck at Roma.”

Updates On Contract Talks With Edin Dzeko & Alessandro Bastoni

Marotta was then asked about Inter’s contract extension talks with defender Alessandro Bastoni and striker Edin Dzeko.

“There’s a lot of optimism regarding Bastoni,” he said. “we feel certain that his response has been positive, as has his agent’s, who’s an intelligent person.”

The Inter CEO predicted that “The agreement will come,” regarding a new deal for Bastoni.

“Regarding Dzeko, we must find a solution together,” Marotta said, “different scenarios could still open up depending on how we finish the season.”

“The financial side of things must be taken into account. With both contract situations,” the CEO added.

“Let’s wait and see” Marotta concluded.
