Inter Milan lead the way to sign Tigre striker Mateo Retegui following a meeting with his club over the weekend.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri held a round of talks with Tigre following an Argentine Primera Division match against Boca Juniors in which they solidified their status as favourites to sign Retegui.

Inter Milan reportedly sent scouts to the Argentine top flight clash between Boca and Tigre at the Bombanera on Sunday. The purpose of the visit was to watch the performance by Mateo Retegui.

Inter Milan have made Mateo Retegui a major target in attack for this summer, according to widespread reports.

The Nerazzurri could try to bring in the 23-year-old to replace Romelu Lukaku should the Belgian return to Chelsea. Alternatively, Mateo Retegui could be signed to pair with Romelu Lukaku.

The Nerazzurri are not the only Serie A team to be keen on signing the Italy international, however. Lazio are also reportedly interested in Retegui, either as a backup or long-term replacement for Ciro Immobile.

All of AC Milan, Udinese, and Atalanta have also been linked as far as Italian clubs go. Then there are La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly keen to bring the 23-year-old to the Bundesliga.

Inter Milan Lead The Way To Sign Mateo Retegui

Inter Milan are the club in pole position according to Tuttosport. It is not certain how the Nerazzurri assessed the performance by Mateo Retegui against his parent club Boca.

However, Tuttosport reports, the meeting with Tigre executives after the match.

Tigre are expected to sign Mateo Retegui on a permanent basis from Boca. Then, the Argentine club can sell him, with Boca receiving a 50% sell-on fee.
