Inter Milan have gotten a big boost in their summer transfer plans such as signing Marcus Thuram from their exploits in last season’s Champions League.
This is the suggestion in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note how the Frenchman as well as Davide Frattesi seem to be partly convinced by what they saw from the Nerazzurri in Europe last summer.
This summer, Inter are planning to make a number of signings.
The Nerazzurri’s plans to freshen up an aging squad for a run at the Serie A title next season are firming up.
In order to land their targets, Inter will have to use every tool at their disposal. The Nerazzurri’s financial situation means that they cannot exactly rely on any monetary advantages.
However, early indications are that Inter are using the prestige of the Champions Legaue to persuade targets.
Inter Milan Use UCL Final Appearance To Land Marcus Thuram
Inter are set to make Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram their first big signing of the summer.
Beating AC Milan as well as a host of European clubs to the Frenchman’s signature certainly looks like a coup. The Nerazzurri have had to not just persuade Thuram with a wage offer, but also an attractive project on the pitch.
In this sense, the Champions League was a perfect showcase for what Inter can offer Thuram.
The 25-year-old will have seen Inter play against Man City in the final of Europe’s top club competition. Even in suffering a narrow defeat, the Nerazzurri showed the wider footballing world the best of their brand of football.
The only players who really underwhelmed in that final, arguably, were the forwards.
If Thuram backs himself to offer a different dimension of pace and technical ability to Simone Inzaghi’s setup as on display against City, it’s no surprise that the Nerazzurri are an attractive destination.
Frattesi Also Potentially Convinced By Inter’s UCL Heroics
Thuram is not the only player who Inter are relying on personally convincing to join.
Davide Frattesi has also hinted at a preference to join Inter.
In Serie A, the Nerazzurri would have to beat Juventus, Roma, AC Milan, and Lazio to the 23-year-old’s signature.
Meanwhile in the Premier league Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United are fans. Paris Saint-Germain have also reportedly identified Frattesi as a target.
Accordingly, Inter have had to stand out from a crowded pack to get in position to sign Frattesi.
And they have done so, seemingly, by convincing the player with their style of football.
The Neroverdi man has made no secret of preferring to play in a midfield three. His well-rounded box-to-box style means that he sees a future in a team that play with a trio.
In the final against City, Inter played with just such a system. Inzaghi’s formation with each midfielder doing a bit of everything shone against City.
Even against perhaps the most tactically astute team in Europe, the Nerazzurri never got overrun centrally.
This was down to the aggressive, well-coordinated work of Inter’s three midfielders. It may have proved an advertisement for just what Frattesi can grow into if he chooses the Nerazzurri.
