AC Milan are ready to join the race to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi, but the player prefers a move to Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

AC Milan have all but completed a massive money sale of midfielder Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United.

Accordingly, the Rossoneri are looking for a like-for-like replacement for the former Brescia star.

One of their main targets appears to be Sassuolo midfielder Frattesi. The 23-year-old is a similar age to Tonali, and also an Italian international as the departing player is.

Accordingly, Milan see Frattesi as one of the most logical candidates to bring in to take the Newcastle-bound player’s place.

However, the Corriere report, Milan would hardly be Frattesi’s first choice.

AC Milan Want Davide Frattesi, But Frattesi Wants Inter

Milan’s entry into the race to sign Frattesi only further crowds the field to sign the young Neroverdi and Italy star.

Inter have reportedly been in pole position to sign the Azzurri start. The Nerazzurri have spent the past couple weeks in talks with Sassuolo.

Meanwhile, Juventus, Roma, and Lazio are also keen to sign the 23-year-old.

However, the player looks to already have a preference.

Frattesi has already hinted that he wants his next step to be in Serie A.

This means that, despite interest from Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United in the Premier League, the 23-year-old is unlikely to want to leave the Italian top flight at this stage in his career. Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly big fans.

Moreover, the young Azzurri star has also hinted at where he wants his next club to be. Frattesi said he wants to join a team where he’ll play in a midfield trio.

According to the Corriere, Frattesi’s preference is in fact to join Inter.
