Inter Milan are ahead of all of Juventus, Roma, and AC Milan in the race to sign Sassuolo and Italy midfielder Davide Frattesi this summer.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Neroverdi midfielder Frattesi is a player who looks very likely to make a big move during this summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old’s form at club level over the past two seasons means that he won’t stay in Emilia-Romagna much longer.
Moreover, Frattesi has been one of the real breakout stars of the Italian national team’s Nations League fixtures this week. The midfielder got his first ever Azzurri goal in yesterday’s 3-2 win over the Netherlands.
Inter are the team who have really pushed to try and bring Frattesi in. The Gazzetta note that he would fit right into the Nerazzurri’s midfield setup.
Frattesi has admitted that he prefers to play in a midfield trio over other formations.
With Italy, Frattesi showed this week that he can work well as one of two box-to-box midfielders along with Inter superstar Nicolo Barella.
Inter Lead The Way As Juventus & Roma Also Interested In Frattesi
As the Gazzetta note, Frattesi has been clear. He wants his next step to be in Serie A.
This means that, despite interest from Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United in the Premier League, the 23-year-old is unlikely to want to leave the Italian top flight at this stage in his career. Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly big fans.
This does not mean that Inter won’t also face competition from within Italy.
Juventus, Roma, and AC Milan are also keen to sign the 23-year-old.
However, Inter have done significant legwork in nailing down an agreement with Sassuolo. The Nerazzurri are poised to sign Frattesi on an initial loan deal containing a €35 million purchase obligation.
The Nerazzurri will also send striker Samuele Mulattieri to Sassuolo as part of the deal.
Nothing is done yet, but at the moment Inter are clear favourites to sign Frattesi, the Gazzetta report.
